Hello, I'm at the nice Hongsung school doing English for 17 year olds, a couple of hours south of Seoul. Been here over a week now and as far as I know I'm the only caucasian in town: I expected as much and I'm fine with it as I have a vast amount of desk work of my own to do, but I can also be available for meeting up on weekends if you're not too far away. I'm 38 and into travel, philosophy, cultural theory, Hinduism, art music, conspiracies, beer, interesting women etc. More anon... |

I think the above is interesting enough except for the conspiracies, though I believe some conspiracies are true. Why? There are some ESL teachers here (at least you hear the stories) who think the CIA or FBI is after them or something as if they are something special like that guy Mel Gibson played in this movie whose name eludes me. Philosophy can be interesting, Hinduism's yoga and Bhagavad gita can have interesting quotes and words that influenced Zen Buddhism, I don't drink much beer, but like imports, and beer drinking is very big among the expats here.
Where are you teaching south of Seoul? Cheonan? Suwon? Gunpo?
Good luck, man! |

Sean, to my mind there is at least 30 native teachers in Hongseong (both PS and Hagwon) I take it that you're probably teaching at the Boys High School? It's surprising that a city of only 35 000 people that you don't bump into foreigners more often. Most of the Hagwon teachers live up in the new part of the city. |

Hi adventurer, well you can have a good read on the internet on the 9/11/oil conspiracies stuff, and though the Apollo moon landings fake is a bit much the Martian buildings are really quite interesting.
Hello Dome Vans, yes I'm at the boys school, but I don't think I've seen another European face while I've been here. They've fixed me up in a place towards the centre of the town also: however I haven't been here long and I haven't really tried the bars yet (I understand there's one called Rangers not far from the school). |

Do you also like long walks along the beach, and quiet time by the fireside? |

Maybe you should post on KFF or something. That is too much information about yourself for this site. |

Yes the internet, often claiming to bring people together, just increases anonymity and alienation- it's basically evil.
Indeed though, 9/11 was just an excuse to create US control over the last of the world's oil. By the time it runs out and prices are prohibitive, everyone will see the wider picture- but won't much care. |

Maybe the people in your town are avoiding you on purpose. |
