I have this funny feeling I will need some dental work in the near future.

I can get it done now, but I suspect I can get it done much cheaper in Korea.

I assume the quality should be fairly solid, no?

it could be something as simple as a filling.. or as nasty as root canal.

I fear it's the latter, hence I'm inclined to wait until I get to Korea because of the costs involved.

anyone had any dental work done here? approximate costs, comments, etc?

Dude! I just had two wisdom teeth pulled at separate times (about a month apart, just got my stitches out today from the second one) and including pre and post visits I spend like a total of MAYBE $30. $35 if you count the two pharmacy visits! DEFINITELY WAIT!!!

HOWEVER... Since both were just done as single pulls, they only used a local anesthetic, they didn't gas me. But I think they likely would if it was that serious.

Is it possible to insist that they wear gloves to work on you? Is that too rude? I saw a dentist when I was in Korea before and I brought a Korean to help me. I didn't like that they didn't give me the metal plated thing to wear when I had an xray. I can get over someone breathing over me without a mask, but the gloves was something I didn't really enjoy.

Ew, I don't know how to check on this before hand but I would change dentists then. My guy used both mask and gloves.

Root canals are covered by your insurance and cost about $30 total. The crown, however, is not covered by insurance. I paid W400,000 for a platinum crown. The 14K gold was W300,000 and 18K, W350,000. This of course will fluctuate a bit. Prior to my root canal, she did a cleaning for W50,000 and an x-ray for W10,000. Overall, pretty darn cheap. As previously stated, wisdom teeth are covered by insurance and run about W30,000 per tooth, done one at a time under local. I think Koreans are pretty obsessed with oral care and it's reflective of their dental industry. My dentist is wonderful, probably the best I have ever had. My principal concurs, saying, as for comfort, the best hes ever had in his 72 years.

To the person who had the wisdom tooth removed, how bad was it? I am supposed to have mine taken out too but am reluctant.

My wisdom were impacted, so I got 2 pulled out. Painless.

The care I received from my Dentist (including Root Canal/Crowns etc..) was actually a pleasant experience. Recommended the same Dentist to a friend and she says he was the best dentist she has ever had. Period. The dentist spoke english and explained everything step by step throughout the procedures.

How about the day(s) after the wisdom teeth were taken out? Could you talk? Any pain to speak of? I have an issue with my "mangina" and all so I am a bit freaked.

Almost an exact story for me. I got one out that was hurting pretty bad and he recommended I not mess with the other until/if it started to bother me. Not bad advice considering it allowed me to pretty much eat anything by just chewing on the other side.

My lower left came out no problem, minor soreness for a few days. My lower right was sideways, impacted and under the gum so that was a MAJOR chore to extract and it was pretty sore for about a week. Most of the soreness is from teaching though since you can't just not talk for a few days.

If you're in Changwon go to the building across from Daedong Department store (going back towards the circle) and go to the 4th floor. I don't know the Korean name but the signs say, in English under all the Korean, Leader in Life.

hahaha, I just noticed that part. Don't worry man, me too.

It depends on the teeth. If they slip right out (like for some fortunate people) there will be virtually no pain after. If you're like me and it takes nearly two hours to get out, you will be sore like a bee-atch! But they will give you meds for 3 days (what's up with the 3-day meds anyway?) and after that just go to the pharmacy and get some EZN 6. Think of it as Advil Liqui-gel. Great for head and body aches, too. An ice pack (either get from the dentist or pharmacy) helps a lot, too.

interesting, many thanks.
cheap(er) but not THAT cheap.

I remember getting dental work in Venezuela for peanuts Smile
oh well.

re wisdom teeth.

they removed all four of mine a long time ago, (though only one was an issue) because they said they'd eventually have to come out anyways..

I can tell you that sucked.

the best thing was the first drug they give you. Percocet/Percodan

that stuff ROCKED. No wonder they take you off it after no more than 3 days.

then I had to take Vicadin, which felt like I was taking nothing at all.
After Percocet days 3-10 really sucked. After 10 days.. it was all good.

Holy crap, I bet! Like I said, the beauty of one at a time is it spread out the hurt and didn't reduce me to a jello diet for a week. But on the flip side... ten days of sucktastic and you're done.
