I had a very frustrating 45 minutes class last night trying to convince a bunch of 16 year-olds that ducks fly. They were pissing themselves laughing at the notion of flying ducks... "teacher, teacher, do Canadian chickens fly too?" ... "teacher, teacher, why didn't "ugly duckling" fly away?"

I'm gonna have to bust out my old Nintendo and "Duck Hunt" game for next class.

Awesome. A youtube video of duck hunting or teal migration should also do the trick.

Most domesticated breeds of ducks have lost the ability to fly. Some still do, though...but farmers clip the tip of the wings or trim the primary wing feathers of those ducks to prevent them from flying away.

I had the same "debate" with my elementary kids. Of course walking over the river home I happened to see a few wild ducks that promptly flew up at my approach.

At my last school I proposed leading day trips to a farm and lake, just to point out to them some nature. It would have been an eye opener to these kids. Of course the school didn't want it due to possible safety issues. So I guess they'll grow up to think milk comes from cartons now.

Only if they're trying to escape from the 'joo' (which is, according to all my middle schoolers, where ALL animals and suchlike live).

Season one of The Sopranos. Tony has his first panic attack when the ducks in his pool fly away. Was that the pilot episode?

What was the name of that movie with Jeff Daniels, about the migrating Canadian ducks? (or was it geese?)

I had a K-girlfriend who was sure ducks couldn't fly. I felt very worldly and wise when I pulled some pics off google of ducks doing the craziest things...like flying.
To balance it all out though, she rocked me at math, and was multi-orgasmic. A fair trade I suppose.

Just found this little gem on youtube. Just when I thought I could never be surprised by how stupid people are. Be sure to read the description.
