|
|
Are there any problems with immigration if you get a new passport? I'm assuming it's easy just to inform them of your new passport once you get it. Am I wrong here?
Also, I was told 15 business days for a new Canadian passport (mine is expiring soon), and because I don't have a guarantor, it will be around $130. Is this true?
Anyone who has had this done recently I'd love to hear! |

^ no you don't. i got a new passport back in october/nov. and all i had to do was transfer the multiple re-entry stamp over into my new one (immi did this at no charge for me... i think usually you'd have to buy it again). i didn't get a new E-2 visa (and i have left and re-entered the country a couple times since then), however you do have to carry both passports on you when you leave the country (and at the bank... they opened your account using your old passport number). |

My husband and I replaced our Canadian passports last November. We had no problem transfering our E-2 visas over to our new passports. Just take your new passport in to the immigration office with the old one and they should be able to transfer it right then and there. I don't even think there was a charge. Just remember to remind them to transfer your multiple entry stamp over too if you have one.
Here is the Canadian embassy website in Seoul.

We used the photo studio that they suggested on their website. It was a pretty painless process overall.
I recommend getting the 48 pager if you plan on doing lots of traveling. |

You do not need another E2 visa. You just need to make sure you have a REENTRY PERMIT in your passport if you leave the country. You ARC is fine for everything else. Don't throw away the old passport though, and keep it with you just incase you ever need to show it (I never have, I have coming into and out of the country 10 times since). It is about 130 too, damn guarantor thing...
TexasPete, at least say when something is just your opinion. You said it as fact, and could cause someone a lot of trouble. If you don't know, don't post or post that it's just an opinion. |

No need to reapply for another visa. I got a new Canadian passport in Korea last year and all I had to do afterwards was visit Korean immigration to transfer my old visa. Don't worry about it... |

People who make comments like this really do piss me off. They have no idea what they are talking about, give incorrect info & a quick & simple search would have provided the needed info.
I got a new Canadian passport in Korea & simply tranferred the visa to the new one by letting immi record the new passport ID#.
Simple as that.

ONE more question,
If you need it in a hurry, can they do it quicker than the 3 weeks if you pay a fee?
If so, how much is the fee? And how fast can it be done? |

Hey cock, I said i could have been mistaken later. Guess you missed that part. I thought my friend had some complications over this topic. I was wrong i guess.
The difference between me and most of the other people that piss you off is i'll admit the mistake. Most other info i give on this site is pretty damn accurate though. |

We got ours two weeks later by mail. We thought it would take three weeks. Maybe, we lucked out. Call or email them through their website and ask them if they will speed up the service for you. |
