So I decided to book a trip to Shanghai in April. Can anyone pass along any information about day trips, reasonably priced hotels/hostels and anything else that springs to mind?

I know pretty well all about the touristy spots (The Bund, River Cruise, X____ Gardens, The N_____market etc) inside the city but, I am interested in visiting nearby cities as well.
