Hi,
Will soon be looking to buy an external DVD/CD reader/writer combo (ODD?).
Any advice or experience to share, would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Pick your favorite DVD burner and get an external case.
It will have it's own power supply so your only bottleneck is the USB.
USB 2.0 is fast enough to support a DVD burner. They tend to burn best at about 8x speed (even though you can get faster burners).
I have used them in the past and found them to be adequate.
The combined cost (burner and case) should be between 40k-60k won. |

I had a USB external enclosure with a Lite-On DVD drive. It burned great at 8X.
In fact, I still have the external enclosure. I took my DVD drive out of it and put it into my desktop. If you want the enclosure, I'll sell it to you. just buy any ol internal DVD drive and pop it into this badboy and you are good to go. |

Hi guys and thanks.
The supplier of our new laptop called today. We are getting an IBM X61, and we had opted for the option of an extra 1GB RAM with a big battery, but they explained that theirs already came with a big battery.
So instead of supplying a big battery, they are going to supply the whole DVD combo instead (they wanted an extra 36k).
So we shouldn't need to buy an ODD now, as one is included in the sale.
Thanks for the advice, I will note it for the future^^.
