I was thinking lately that I only know about a handful of people that are worth more than a "hey" or "whassup" here.
I used to think that every foreigner I met was brilliant for conversation. As they've all gone to college and have at least achieved a Bachelor's degree, they must have an opinion on something and be somewhat educated. Lately... I don't know. I meet a lot of bitter and tired vets or the fresh off the boat people that are only here to party.
Maybe the culture shock forces them to go one way or the other leaving little of their original conversation worthy self behind.
... or perhaps I'm maturing into a bitter vet with near a whole three years under my belt.
