First off, we can never answer this question, as if they never hang out with foreigners, then none of us know them...and they surely don't visit this board.
Although I am closer to that stereotype than, let's say....the newbie who clings to everything western, I can't imagine anyone doing what you've described. Sh!t....nevermind, just came to me....and he was a poster on the OLD eslcafe board, and got into it with many a foreigner....met him several times in person, and realised...
If I had to go by this one person, I'd say that they (those who shun their 'heritage' and take on EGG-persona) are holier-than-thou and snooty. They also, in my opinion, feel they are God's gift to Koreans...and possibly bask in their circle of friends saying, 'oh wise cracker of the west...'
Oh wait, that's me.....ne ver min d
Shoosh,

Yeah, thats basically my answer as well. I've never met a foreigner like this. Never even seen one before.
If those who have.. could you describe how they are 'dissing' you or whatever else? I just haven't noticed this behavior in any foreigners I've met before.
Regarding only eating Korean food.. well most of the western food here sucks. As to dating only Korean girls (or guys).. its because there are more of them. As to not having any foreign friends.. maybe the individual is lousy at making friends. In regards to speaking Korean like a native.. good on them. |

Why yes, I was thinking of doing just that, so in this case it does matter. |

Fonzie...silly topic really...
Never met anyone doing what you mentionned.
However, if someone learns Korean and has many Korean friends...who cares?
If that same person likes the Korea diet..who cares?
Heck I eat mostly Korean...oh wait..what does that make me?... |

Say, you know who I've been wondering about is those foreigners who don't learn any Korean, have a Western boyfriend/girlfriend, they're always eating Western food, and they don't hang out with Korean people.
What the hell are they doing here? |

Ive met a few guys like that! they became racist themselves..
they HATE, hongdae, Itaewon. just because there are foreigners!
they try to speak like koreans and act like them! which is a shame really!
I mean we all know the koreans go out of their way to act like foreigners.
seems now the trend is to BE BLACK. try to look all gangsta and hard!
those foreigners who are turning koreana turning koreana, need to sit back and check themselves! trying to be hyung, or oppa whatever!
treat your girlfriend like s h i t now. tell her she cant go out etc!!!
GET A LIFE!!! |

I've met these sort of folk - more outside of Seoul really. It's there choice. Doesn't bother me in the least bit. But, please don't assume that if someone is wearing hanbok they must hate foreigners. It's simply not true. I have a bunch of friends who wear groovy hanbok and they are some of the nicest people I know.
I applaud anyone who can learn Korean and get it down fluently. They have my full admiration. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
Cheers!

some people try to intergrate themselves, whereas the comments above speak about alot of people that shouldn't be wasting their time here in Korea in the first place. |

If you were (for example) an American who lived in France, spoke French like it was your native language, had a French boyfriend/girlfriend, only eat French food and didn't hang out with other Americans... would you be considered all that strange?
(over and above actually moving to France in the first place, that is )

Can honestly say in 7 yrs I have never met a guy who "became" Korean. I know plenty who can speak fluently (kinda a shame I can't yet), they eat Korean food, have Korean girlfriends or wives, but they don't ignore other foreigners. It is probably the opposite, they try to get tons of people together for events like xmas or summer bbqs.
There are oddballs everywhere, guess what the OP mentions is one end of the spectrum. |
