Posted: Fri Mar 28, 2008 12:31 am Post subject: Yet Another Criminal Background Check Queston |
|
|
I'm currently in the middle of a contract and as a result I did not need to get the criminal background check when I signed this current contract.
However, I'm going back to Canada for a short vist next month and would like to get the criminal background check taken care of while I'm there.
Getting the check should be simple enough, I'll just pop into my local RCMP office.
But I'm not sure what to do after that?
(1) Do I need to have the CBC sealed in an envelope?
(2) Do I need to get it notarized? If so does it have to be notarized by a specific source or can I just get any lawyer to do it?
(3)When I get the CBC how soon to I have to send it to immigration? I've heard I have about three months, is this true?
(4) I've heard that I have to bring the CBC to a Korean consulate, however there is not currently one in my home town (Winnipeg). However, can I instead just submit it to immigration here in Seoul when I come back from my trip?
If not can I do this at the Korean Consulate/Embassy in Japan when I plan to visit there in July? Or do I have to submit them to the consulate from my home country, i.e. Canada?
(5) After I submit my CBC am I home free from ever having to do it again?
I'm thinking about taking some time after my current to travel for a month and then study Korean in Seoul for three more.
Therefore, when I start a new contract, will I have to go through the procedures all over again?
Thanks for any responses in advance |

| I've been told that the cbc can't be more than 3 months old...don't know if that's true, or just more bs... |

On the immi website, that has been changed to 6 months.
To the OP:
since you are currently in Korea AND have had a previous E2 (and just picking this up on a vacation trip home) you should be able to go to the Canadian Embassy in Seoul and, at the consular section, swear an attestation affidavit as to it's authenticity and be fine with that.
According to the immi website you only have to do this one time (but we know how often that can change - like the one time only degree verification thing - I think I have verified my degree about 14 times in the last 6 years).

That's correct. It's 3 months max from the time the document is stamped and issued by the authorities. |

Did you have to have you CBC notarized first? Or did you just bring in the original CBC to the Canadian embassy? |

I just received mine from the US today. I didn't go home, submit fingerprints, or any of that. I got a couple of copies to check one out just in case . As far as the US goes, it appears that ours are valid for only three months. They ran a national and state check. It was notarized, apostilled, and sealed. BTW...NO RECORD FOUND for me . |

Just take the original to the embassy. They do the notary thing on the affidavit.

Don't hold me in suspense ... How did you do it? What agency/company did you go through? Would be great to find out. Cheers. |

My father is a city manager in Florida. He simply had the police chief that works for him request the CBC. I know that it is not that easy for everyone. |
