does anyone here know how to get to Geoje by ferry??
im planning a weekend away and bus journeys make me feel ill so any help will be much appreciated.
i live in Changwon and am pretty sure there's ferries from Masan and Jinhae but does anyone know times and costs?? also we're looking to get as far south on the island by boat as well.
was thinking of maybe going to Busan for a night and taking a ferry in the morning so any info from there would be great as well.
many thanks |

From the terminal next to Nampodong in Busan.

Yes, and not expensive.
You can also bus it to Geoje island via Tongyeong. There are two bidges to the island from Tongyeong. Just go to the bus station. Simple as can be.

uh... there are three main ferry terminals on the island, on the north coast at "Gohyeon" (where the buses go), and the better port of "Okpo" on the east coast, where there are tons of restaurants and motels all in easy walking distance, a nice base from which to head south along the coast by bus or taxi.
The southernmost ferry terminal on the east coast is "Jangseungpo", a port with less motels and less restaurants and just 10-15 minutes south of Okpo by bus. But there are nice seafood places there and ferries to "Oedo" ("way-doe") the garden island.

I recommend staying in the Nampodong area, do some shopping or restaurants or grab a movie. Then in the morning walk or short taxi it to the ferry terminal and catch a ferry to Okpo, doing lunch there, plenty of interesting options, hike the hills around there for the day, see the museum monument to Yi Sun Shin's battle of Okpo against the Japanese, then the next morning head down the east coast by bus or taxi.
Enjoy whatever. |

I went to Geoje by ferry last year and came back by bus. We took the ferry from Jinhae.
I can't remember the times but they are reasonably frequent. I think our ferry departed at about 1100am on a Saturday morning. The cost was cheap. Again I can't remember well but I'm pretty sure it was something between 3,500 won and 8,000 won for a one way ticket.
A trip to Geoje should be well planned, especially if you are not taking a car to drive around the island. Although it has some very nice areas it has some pretty dire one's too. If you do your homework, you should have a nice trip, especially as the weather is looking great. |

Does anyone know of any good camping spots on Geoje? I live ion Guhyun, but have only seen the "National Forest of Recreation" and some other overcrowded places. Also, what are the rules for camping on beaches? If I pitch a tent on Gujora, will I be fined? Thanks! |
