Hey I'm curious what would happen if I just straight up don't show up to work ever again??? I'm not talking about a midnight run I just mean not showing up for work yet staying in Korea??? What are the legalities of that?
Like if I straight up don't come into work and then one day I'm walking down the road and bump into my director! heh Just curious is all! |

One thing they can do is cancle your visa, so you have 10 days to leave.
I dunno what else though. |

Eventually they will fire you and your visa will be canceled. You will then have 14 days to leave the country or face penalties. |

Plus you may have to wait several months before qualifying for another visa.
If your apartment is school provided, you will be evicted from it as well. |

And possibly be sued for expenses and breach of contract. I don't recommend it.
Read your contract, you may be able to quit with a notice if you have another job lined up, I would do that. But I'm just in my first year so take this with a huge grain of salt. |

I've done that once. I just woke up one day & said 'screw it'. Never went to work. I got a few calls but just ignored them.
Nothing happened, life moved on & I was much happier when I made the decision to stop going.
You'll be fine.

Chickenlove has the bulletproof F-5 visa. So immigration can't touch him.
There is no upside for E-2 visa holders to just walk off the job unless you intend to leave permantly or pull a runner/visa run.
Owning our own visas would put a huge dent in the kind of hagwon shenanigans that lead one to consider going AWOL. |

| I never thought about it, but is this why they don't want gyopos on teaching staff? It was always framed to me as "they don't look foreign enough" but I'm sure the fact that they have ultimate bargaining power has an awful lot to do with it...hmm... |

| Certain hakwons need a marketing edge, and that could be having all white teachers. Plus many gyopos, especially from California, have shaky English. I remember helping a friend find a proofreader, and a few of the gyopos who called about the job couldn't speak English to save their lives. |
