At the gym today (Hotel gym I may add), I watched a Korean male personal trainer request a fellow Canadian to leave the gym because "he smelled". He asked him to remove his baseball cap and proceeded to smell it remarking that he should "put it in the garbage". This led to the Canadian becoming angered and started a verbal war. The personal trainer then stopped the Canadian's treadmill and asked him to leave. Physical confrontation ensued. I intervened telling all Korean staff that everything was ok, and told the Canadian to "let it go".
The Canadian did not smell AT ALL.

Sounds like he was kicked out for arguing with the guy, not for stinking.
If he had simply thrown out his nasty little cap, no problem. He should have obliged.
You may have thought he didn't stink, but I'm sure that rotten, spoiled kimchi/soju smell that hits us on the subway ever day goes under Koreans' radar. |

The baseball cap might have been sweaty, but hardly justification to insult someone by telling them they "stink". The funny thing was the Canadian replied "I don't complain about your kimchi breath, when you are in my face!". The personal trainer was literally inches away from the Canadian.
Most Koreans in the gym viewed the issue as "crazy foreigner", while most foreigners suggested racial motives.
In my opinion, the personal trainer is just an ass*ole anyways. I would love to see him get fired. Anytime I causally talk to a female Korean staff or gym member, he immediately comes over and says something negative behind my back in Korean to her. However, he constantly hit ons every single foreigner woman in the gym, with no one even batting an eye. |

The trainer's trying to be the alpha male of the gym. Trying is the key word.
Make a complaint and get his ass fired. |

How did you know he didn't smell? How close did you get to him? Was it a chemical sniff or a full on snort? |

Koreans don't have body odor; Westerners do. You guys need to learn where to buy deoderant (even it's the $8 variety at the hotel kiosk) or atleast use the saunas. |

Liar, all Canadians smell; especially ones from the west coast.
(or)
If it wasn't you, how do you know if he smelled or not? Were you sniffing him like a customs German shepherd? |

You're either kidding or of Korean ancestry- right?
I've smelled bad body odour coming off of loads of locals over the years. |

So any time anybody has an issue, rightly or wrongly, with something you're wearing, you will oblige them by chucking it in the trash?
PS - I don't like your pants. Please discard them. Now. |

Who cares if the guy smelled? It's a gym. People sometimes smell in gyms. The trainer has serious problems upstairs. |
