I want to head to Thailand for a week this winter. Ive seen ads in the Korea Herald for around W400 000. But I was wondering if anyone knows a good discount travel agency that maybe able to give me cheaper flights.
Also who has been to Thailand and knows of a perfect island/beach to spend a week. |

Good luck finding that price in the winter. January is the start of Thailand's high season. Flights are at their most expensive. You're lookint at about W600,000. Shop around but most are offering a similar price.
RE: a beach? What do you want in a beach/accom? What kind of traveller are you? We need more info on what you want. |

I'll be there around the first week of December for 10 days. I put in a reservation but unfortunately the prices haven't been released yet.. they quoted that it would probably be around 420,000 at that time. However if I were to be going down there before November 15th.. it would have been something like 360,000 I believe it was.
A few travel agents to try are:
Joy Travel 02-776-9871
Top Travel 02-734-4630
KISES 02-733-9494
STA 02-733-9494
Unique Travel 02-792-0606
Zed Travel 02-794-0181
I have my ticket reserved right now.. but just waiting for the final price to be listed.. and I'll be purchasing probably regardless of the price (I really wanna get the hell out of here for 10 days).
I'll let you know what they charge me.. probably know Monday or Tuesday.. (consolidator travel agencies can't really sell you the tickets it seems until about a month before when the prices have been issued.. don't know how that works).. |

I don't understand that either. They seem inconsistent with it. When I went to Tokyo (Sept 2001), Kuala Lumpur (Sept 2003) and Bangkok (Dec 2001) they kept me hanging on until the last second before getting me the ticket.
When I bought one way tickets I have had no problem arranging them and paying for them months in advance. Stockholm (June 2002), Shanghai (Aug 2002) and Toronto (Aug 2002) |

Ko Phi Phi has two sides (that I've seen): The backpacker side with cheap accomodation, restuarants, dive shops, etc and the Luxury side with air-con bungalows, white sand beaches and euro tourists out on wooden beach chairs.
I paid 5 bucks a night last time, splurging this time around. |

hey there.
I was gonna go there during the xmas holiday. A place in busan has 7day travel package with air for about 800000W....i don't know if that's good.
I was told that the peak season ends around the end of february. So i'll probably head out there.
Does anyone here know of a, like, "hammock near the beach" kinda place? |

I liked Ao Rai Leh, near Krabi. It's a peninsula surrounded by limestone cliffs, the only way in is by boat. The beaches are good, there's rock climbing, a range of accomodation, and a few bars. One big hotel bought out most of the availible land and hasn't developed it yet, which kind of insures less crowding. |

The only asian tourists you'll see in Phuket are the Japanese and not very many of them. The occasional Korean tour group as well. The majority of tourists that hit phuket are Europeans and most of them German.
You also get a smattering of Arabs. The girls are also very cheap in Phuket and you can't avoid them if you stay on Patong Beach.
December/January is high season, if you get a ticket for less that 600,000 I'll be amazed. I went once in low season (August) and the ticket was 660,000 and thats the lowest I could find. |

Okay, it looks like I'll be getting my ticket for 420,000 won to Bangkok. I haven't purchased it YET. But that was the quote. Not bad.. basically the first week of December is when I'm going down. |

Are you staying in Bangkok the whole time?
Your sig makes it sound that way. Bangkok is an amazing city but 9 days seems a long time to spend there. Might I suggest taking the train up to Chiang Mai for a few days. Cooler climate, less pollution & traffic, great markets, a couple of fantastic temples.. Hire a scooter & explore the place.. Great place to chill out. |

Actually I do plan to spend most of the time in Bangkok.. and the Bangkok vicinity.
The major reason being that I hit most everything that seemed interesting in the Chiang Mai region in the past as well as a few southern islands.. but totally glossed over Bangkok (with the exception of Ko Sahn Road)..
This time around I was thinking of spending a few days in each part of Bangkok, watch alot of movies, eat alot of good food, check out everything there it to see, go out to the bars and clubs every night, and just really get to know it. I located three good areas.. one near Nana Plaza.. one around Silim area.. and one around Chinatown.. thinking of spending a few days in each area.. (completely avoiding Ko Sahn Road except possibly one evening of drinking just to check it out to see how its changed).
At least thats the plan now.. once I get down there.. it could just change just like that |
