this was mentioned back in the dead of winter when we were all either huddling under our blankets sitting on the ondol or those of you lucky ones were spreading the suntan lotion.
the thing is, posting something like this on a forum might get more responses than is reasonable for anyone's apt, let alone my humble abode.
but it does seem like a good idea and when mentioned previously was responded to quite favorably so what I was thinking......
maybe one of the bars, such as Gecko's, might be willing to host an evening of chili lovers, who, after all, will want to wash down their chili with some cold brewskis, right?
but not being a regular patron of such an establishment, I don't have any kind of connection there so I'm wondering if someone might have a suggestion and/or comment about this?
as well as who would be open to participating in such an event? I'm sure there's more than Americans that like/eat/cook chili so we could have quite the international cuisine tasting going on perhaps?
let's hear it folks - who's up for some down-home cooking 3 alarm chili? and who can help find a place to host such an event?
maybe we could even get some live music in there also? |

I am not a good cook, but I would definitely pay some fee to come and taste all the chili. Or judge if you want. I don't think the owner of Geko's would be into it. Most of the bars sell food and wouldn't want the competition for a day. You might try Phillies in Haebangchong(spelling). |

so Rikus - can you make chili??
but as for Phillie's; I've been there; don't think it's big enough for such a gathering - and if there is live music, where would they set up?
*fyi* the informal chili cookoff - the chili entries each have a number posted next to them, the guests all get a card to mark their comments on and vote and then the votes are tallied and the winner(s) announced.
that would seem to be the fairest since there's no history of a chili cookoff here so no one could be considered an appropriate judge. If it was started as say, the first annual cookoff, after some years people who won or placed at previous competitions could be considered competent to judge.
This is how I would imagine the set up to be so no one would feel slighted by impartial judging.
A small entry fee could be charged so there would be something available for a prize, or it could just be split among the contestants or paid to the bar who hosted it. |

yeah, actually back home they usually ARE held outdoors - !! but K doesn't really offer that kind of green space here - and since few of us have vehicles it'd be difficult to travel very far carrying a pot of chili - best to limit it to where people can carry it on the train, bus or taxi. |
