This thread is in response to multiple threads about people complaining that Korean merchants are doshonest. Most recently, McGarrett talking about the egg lady and someone else being screwed over by the chicken truck guy.
One rule I live by, and works for me well is this: If it doesn't have a price tag on it, I don't buy it. I am sure that a few honest merhcnats lack price tags, but it's their loss. I won't buy their product.
One example is a local chicken place. They were 6000 for a while, and suddenly their price banner was removed. I guessed prices went up, maybe 6500 or so. A friend of my wife's bought a chicken there a few days. 7900. A 1900 price increase. No wonder they took down their sign!! |

I can't tell you the number of times I have been overcharged at E-mart. I used to bring it to the attention of Customer Service each time, but all they would do is refund me the price difference, as if I spent all that time only waiting to be refunded 300 won. Now I no longer advise them unless the discrepancy is significant. |

A bunch of chickens are being slaughtered due to bird flu. I would imagine supply is starting to take a hit. |

True, but they can still post their prices. Not posting them is misleading customers.
I guess they're afraid that if they post the new, 30% higher price, no one would come.
