I am staying for 10 more months and then leaving after the end of December. Then, the plan is either to go to the US for grad school or work in either Canada or the US. I could return to Asia, perhaps to Japan. Korea has had its positive moments, but the laws when it comes to banking and protecting teachers leave too much to be desired. I am not a money hungry fool who doesn't care about his dignity.

I envy your ability to say this without being verbally abused for lack of patriotism.

Well if he'd said he hated the US then maybe he would need to watch his back. I don't think Canadians get abusive when one of their own isn't patriotic.

Patriotic Canada.. Are you Joking.. Even people in Canada don't gie a shit about it. I remember an extensive survey done amongst 17-30 years olds done asking asking whether they would fight for Canada if it was invaded over 70% said no.

Patriotism in Canada is non existent. I have never seen any. Patriotism and Nationalism is about as foreign to Canada as a Waekguk is to Korea.

I'm curious. What makes you think people have left? (Have you seen/heard something?)

Interesting. Does it only show up when talking to Americans?

I think it only shows up when talking to Americans and it only shows up if the Canadian is from an eastern province. Western provinces tend to like Americans mainly because its the American dollar working for us.

Usually a Holier then Thou focking Canadian Liberal/Commi/Pecker heads hippies run their stupid mouths off to Americans.

I personnaly love the US and personnaly I rather be an American but it wasn't my choice, my mother wanted to be a Canadian because she heard it was cleaner. Now talking to her she sounds as a pleased with Canada as I am.

There is nothing worse then listening to a Canadian from Ontario.

Opionions are just like arseholes every one has one except most eastern Canadians had their arseholes penetraded by an elephant !

How come Canadians are so vocal and patriotic online? And from what I've read overseas too! I can remember dozens of patriotic canadians online slagging off on every other nation(US in particular), bringing up irrelvant History of Canadian nobody cares about(like contributions during WWII, heroic sacrifices made during battle of ______), or stories of Canucks making everyone aware they're from Canada.

Because frankly they feel worthless.

If you want a random fact..

Canada is a country that had succsefully comited genocide! That is right the goold ole' passifict Canucks have killed of an entire race of people. Baetuk Natives from the eastern provinces.

The Canadian residential school for natives were so EFFECTIVE at destroying the Native populous that Germany actually sent scientists/politicians to study the brutal effectivness of these institutions, which later were used as a model to setup Ghetto's and Concentration camps during WW2.

I studied true Canadian History in University.

There are so many dirty secrets the Canucks don't know about or don't want to acknowledge that its not funny.

I am not a born Canadian so my views are different, we relocated under a UN passport but regretfully my mother chose Canada.

I am not saying USA is perfect but I rather be an American then a Canadian.

That is in the running for the stupidest most incoherent post ever on Daves.

I don't think that Canadians are unpatriotic, it is just a bit quiter. Yes, when some Canadians go abroad they get a little loose lipped, spouting off like home is some utopia where if you fell in the street you would be surrounded by 20 doctors within 10 seconds, all offering you free medical care. The "brand" of Canada is more admired than brand America these days, which is why Canadians are more vocal than Americans when in another country.

Nothing is more annoying and false than the blind, U-S-A U-S-A chanting patriotism seen in the states after 9-11. It is so unproductive and stems from a herd mentality. This kind of love for your country doesn't allow you to see the truth about what is really going on.

Don't worry. After about 6 months of call center work or waiting tables most will be back.

I'm having trouble with the claim of 'quieter'. Maybe it's just me.

In Canada it is considered in bad taste to be chest-thumping proud about Canada (except in hockey, but it's more about the sport than the nation: pride in success than in identity). That doesn't mean we'd rather be anywhere else.

Those yahoos who go online touting how great Canada is are being very un-Canadian in their expression, not necessarily in their feelings.

It's a cultural thing.

Uh,... Alberta yeah. That province and its perpetual Conservative gov't has always had a hard-on for Texas and most things American. Next door in the province of B.C., especially in the Vancouver area, Albertans seem much more American than other Canadians do. Must be all that beef and oil and prairie life. Laughing
