Why do you drink alcohol, alone?

I'm bored right now. A cheap and convenient way to pass time is to get a few beers.

Sure, I could meditate, read a book, watch a movie, sex myself up, but I'm looking for a way to unwind.

Besides, I want to get out of my mind(meditation usually brings me back inside).

It's night time here. When I was in Korea it was an all to convenient way I could 'switch tracks', so to speak. A little sanctuary of personal thought in an otherwise cluttered space.

No, I'm lying. I like beer. It makes the TV bearable.

Basically, tfunk, I have expensive, sophisticated and cultured tastes. What could possibly embody good taste and aesthetical excellence than a glass or two of Vinho do Porto and Armagnac?

I often have a drink at home for pleasure of taste, and as you say, to unwind.
I've got two children. When they are sleeping it's nice quiet time. Don't often get much of that when the kids are awake and the World's turning. It's realistic to have a dram at this time and it's not doing any harm with me putting my feet up by the proverbial fireside and having a bit of a mind snooze.
I never drink outside of home, except at family members' homes, such as a SIL who lives 200 meters away so can easily walk home and is good for not drinking alone.
I'm not alcoholic, in that I don't wake up and need a drink. I go for days without having any. However, liking to drink straight with no rocks or soda makes me half of one I think ...
I hate Smirnoff. But, a couple of days ago I got given a really good bottle of Russian 'St Petersburg' vodka. Got an Aussie red as well. At the same time my wife bought me a JW black and four cans of Guinness.
Likewise, the last couple of nights I've been in taste sensation heaven.

Don't want to make it a nightly habit though.

yeah, sometimes the stress, loneliness, and boredom gets to me. i just start late at night with a glass or two of wine to pass the time and enjoy music a little bit more. but then i think to myself, i'm not drunk enough yet... so i pour another glass. then it starts to sound like britney spears has talent, so i start to bob my head and sway my hips. then i think, i'm starting a buzz, this is kinda nice... so i stand up and start dancing alone in my room, followed by another glass.

next thing i know, i'm recording my sweet new dance movies on my camera to see if i'm as good as i feel i might be. and finishing the rest of the bottle just because.

this is all in the course of 1 hour. i'll wake up and find myself sprawled on the bed at 8am and my bedroom light is still on and my teeth and lips are dark purple.

it's a slippery slope to drink alone, so be careful...i've only done it a handful of times but try to avoid it now, as there are plenty of koreans to buy me drinks and be alcoholic with.

I like this thread. It's full of human stories. Loneliness is a common experience 'shared' by most foreigners in Korea (loneliness shared!).

Loneliness is a nice point of contact, something that humbles all us waygooks in all our talk of empires and cultures.

Personally, I love the sun and the sun comes to Korea.

Spliff, I love you.

Oneofthesarahs, where are you?

I know posting-whilst-drunk (PWD) is more or less a tradition here, but seriously, OP, you are uninteresting, redundant and not worth our time. Goodbye... Confused

Oh dear. You never seem to get along with people, judging by your previous posts.

Famous quotes from your last 3 postings:

"I'm callin BS on that"

"Don't lie."

"but for the sake of all that is good: STFU."

"Come back when you have something worth our time."

"You are an after-post troll of the highest degree. You contribute nothing"

"Strerodis were the problem..."

I guess what I'm trying to say is that that whenever you point your finger at somebody else, you point 3 fingers back at yourself.

After a full day and night of non-stop teaching and talking, it's nice to slow down the mind with some booze.
