Any large retailer will take them. Some mom & pop shops may not have enough cash in the till to break one.
You may need to put your ID number or phone number on it when you present it. |

sorry to hi-jack, but it's related.
If I had a 1,000,000 won check, could I walk into any bank and cash it? I have had occasion to carry a bunch of money, and carrying a million won check would be a lot easier than 100 man wons... |

They would probably want a pocket full of ID and give you a hassle if you were NOT an account holder (banks are funny that way).
If you were an account holder, just deposit and withdraw. Shouldn't be a problem. It would likely be harder to find a million won check than to cash it.

Well, when I get money from the ATM, it asks if I want cash or check... I don't really like carrying big bundles of money so I thought that might be more convenient. |

**banks charge a fee** for checks even to deposit - if it's not drawn on their bank - !!
I found this out when I was paid for a camp more than (20) 100,000 won checks, my bank charged me a hefty 3000 won charge for each one -!! I was livid - !!
you can use them like large bills in places like Emart and they'll give you change in cash, don't recall how much id was necessary, maybe nothing at all actually. |

ATMs spit out 100k won checks. I haven't seen one that has million won checks. It would spit out 10*100k won checks (assuming the machine transaction limit is that high). |

You can get larger checks from the tellers. I once got a W4,000,000 check after they pissed me off while I was trying to transfer money. |

Next year, the new 50,000 and 100,000 bills will be out. Screw not having regular money in a higher denomination of 10,000 won. |
