|
|
As with most Koreans, my wife can't live without Kimchi even outside of Korea.
We store it in the fridge in tupperware containers but it really stinks. It is embarrassing if anyone not familiar with Korean food comes to visit because the whole apartment reeks of it.
Is there anything that can lessen the smell of Kimchi? We have tried candles around the apartment but they are not strong enough.
On the plus side I can now F_art liberally around the apartment and she doesn't even notice but it is not a fair trade.
Also I have a theory to propose. I suspect that the bacteria floating around the fridge from stored Kimchi turns milk sour more quickly. Any opinions on this? |

Kimchi is funky tasting techno cabbage but it becomes very addictive. |
Baking soda. If not, live with it. "I've got stinky gimchi in my fridge and I can't deal. "

I've tried using a bowl of ground coffee in there and it seems to work all right. I'm not sure if it's been killing the kimchi smell or just covering it up, but when I first put it in there I smelled the coffee when I opened the fridge. Actually I just checked again and I'm not so sure that it's working at all, but the grinds are pretty old, and my sniffer ain't so great in the first place. |

Try wiping everything down with hotwater and vanilla essence, then keep an open bottle of vanilla essence in the back of the fridge. sure every thing smells of vanilla, but what is better?
This does work. plus it is an easy cheap solution |

In the US I kept kimchi in glass jars because that's how I bought it. No smells.
I had many other refrigerator smell problems, which were solved with open dishes of baking soda and charcoal. |

A few places sell these weird looking tubs (about half the size of a margarine container) called "odor eaters" or something similar... Not sure how well they work though... |
