| A friend and I are going to Taipei next weekend but haven't booked hotels yet. Will we have trouble finding rooms? |

I used to find apartment buildings and rent a one-room with cable for 400 NT a night. Cheaper than a hostel.
Anyway, I shouldn't think you'll have a problem. |

How do I go about doing this? Just find walk up to random apartment buildings and ask for a room for 3 nights? |

Naw. I was just bragging. This was actually in Hualien.
You can find a motel not far from the train station. I stayed at one that might've been around 1100 to 1200 NT when I first got there in 2003. But there were cheaper. Just ask around when you get there. If you're spending 30 to 40 or 50 bucks, that's not too bad.
Lonely Planet is a good book for this. |
