Floating a baloon for military action inside Pakistan...?

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The situation in the border region between Afghanistan and Pakistan where al Qaeda has established a safe haven presents a "clear and present danger" to the West, the CIA director said Sunday.
Michael Hayden cited the belief by intelligence agencies that Osama bin Laden is hiding there in arguing that the U.S. has an interest in targeting the border region.
If there were another terrorist attack against Americans, Hayden said, it would most certainly originate from that region... |

Well, director Hayden has certainly mastered the art of stating the obvious.

On Sunday, Hayden declined to comment on reports that the U.S. might be escalating unilateral strikes against al Qaeda members and fighters operating in Pakistan's tribal areas out of concern that the pro-Western Musharraf's influence might be waning. |
Wasn't this what Obama said he was going to do when elected president? And didn't Bush & Co. said something like "No. We don't attack our allies."? |

There would be a problem of attacking them on Pakistani soil itself.
Prime Minister Gallani will have to send in the military, if necessary, to deal with this. I, personally, think Al Qaeda is weak and though it is not quite on the retreat it is very weak in Iraq, the Taliban are going to have to deal with more Nato troops. I think stabilizing both Afghanistan and Iraq has to be done. Al Qaeda suffered some political defeats in Pakistan with the PPP coming back to power. They are engaging in terrorist acts in Pakistan to deal with the government. I suppose you could have more troops near the Pakistani border and the Pakistani troops seal up the border. |
