I start next Monday and the recruiter tells me I only have to be at school for 4 hours a day for 2.2 million.

Who has experience in one of these jobs? What are the negatives?

Zero bank accounts.

Everything looks pretty official.

I also work at one of these types of jobs, but I only work 4 hours a week. The negative; not enough of these types of jobs!
Actually, one negative (in my situation) is that the school often cancels, and expect me to make up the time. But beyond that, I love these gigs.

I suggest a boycott of all after school programs

I taught in one for a year and it was great. I was pretty much left alone to teach 5 classes per day, which added up to slightly less than 4 hours a day. I wasn't given much in the way of resources but I really couldn't complain. No scams. It was completely legit.

There are usually a few very dodgy things about these gigs (the two bank accounts thing, for one), but I know a few people who've done them and they were indeed full-time salary for part-time hours. Just consider buying your own medical insurance if you think you may end up in hospital.

Ouch on the low salary. A lot of them are offering up to 3mil for what amounts to 4hrs work.

Health insurance can be gotten privately at any rate. The only advantage to having your employer sign you up is you save 1.5% (the half the employer pays) on your monthly fees.

If you do 2 jobs and bring in 5mil a month, I think you can afford the 1.5% no?

Is that possible on an E-2?

^

It is if your main sponsor gives you a letter granting permission to add a second workplace to your E2. Costs 60,000 at kimmi to add an employer - if you have that letter.

Personally, there are no negatives. Do make sure to get your own insurance though, although I'd suggest that regardless of what job you had because typical Korean coverage is extremely limited, even if you are signed up for it. I guess a lot depends on the individual company that's sourcing you out, but mine seems more than decent. The hours are uber short, and the pay is (a great deal) better than a slap in the face with a wet fish.

Ahem. Edited on account of the unfathomable censoring of s.h.o.r.t

Why even go to immigration to add an employer? I'd rather just do it under the table. My school was ok with it.

I have health insurance and everything with my school. The apartment is a bit poos, but once I start making some coin from the second job I'll find my own place, and get housing allowance from the visa job.

The only problem I've had so far is my crummy recruiter being impossible to get in touch with, and them trying to move me to Osan, which I refused.

Your employer can use that against you. Err on the side of caution.

I started an after school gig last week. It's awesome. I go in at 12 get out by 5:30. The pay is good, you can negotiate with them to get what you want if you have been here for a while and have the TEFL. Really, it's a walk in the park. They also pay my housing an key money. I was able to choose where I wanted to live. Also, there is no bank account scam either. The public school pays me... Vacation time looks good. Sooo much better than when I worked at a f*cking hagwon with no vacation time, too many hours, hyperactive disrespectful kids and shit pay..
