A big waste of money.

I use to work for Big Iron back home, as well as other large corporations.
I had 5 computers in my house, spent thousands of dollars on software and hardware.

I use to be into computers big time. I spent so much cash upgrading buying nice things now I just realize that they are great waste of money.

They devalute to quickly they are always to slow for the things you want them to do.

I rather now buy stocks and bonds. I have save so much cash over the last couple years that I recently bought Visa IPO stock (cha ching).

I guess priorities change I want to go back to school and frankly don't want to take out any more loans.

Whats your guys' reasoning for the "upgrade" bug? My new mentality is buy a medium power computer and have it run for 4 years. Skip at least 3 generations of tech. Each generation only gives like 10-20% more performance so it doesn't really make sense to upgrade consecutive generations.

It's all about the games for me. But buying computers is just like anything else. Some people are more frugal and some are extravagant.

If computers are a hobby then you're entitled to spend some money now and then. Most hobbies cost something. Sure, hiking is a lot cheaper, but I'm definitely more interested in buying a new GPU than hiking a new mountain!!

If I build a computer for 1,000,000 won and keep it for about 18 months then sell it for around 350,000, then repeat the process, I'm happy. It means I'm only spending around 650,000 won every 18 months but I'm still enjoying a pretty up-to-date computer. I can definitely afford 600-700,000 won every 18 months.
