They'll never change.
If you're a foreigner, you'll never really be accepted here no matter what you may want to think.
If you're even slightly different from the "norm" here, you'll be ridiculed, talked about behind you're back, and treated with an unspoken disdain.
Koreans are that insecure and that small-minded. |

Never? Never? How do you know? That's not an optimistic point of view.
Obviously, now we are not truly accepted, but the fact that Koreans have been taught by English teachers at least since 1994 if not before, which is 14 years, expect things to gradually change. Also, consider that one in eight marriages are to foreigners. There is a very strong resistance to foreigners among many sectors of the population. And you're saying all Koreans are insecure and small-minded when 1/8th marry foreigners? Why are you worried about others accepting you or not? And, some Koreans do accept foreigners. One of my good friends, a South African, his boss really cherishes him not only as his employee but as his dear friend, and they enjoying drinking tea together. Obviously, xenophobia is very big in Korea, but there are shades of grey, right? We all know how you feel, and many Koreans do not accept foreigners or mixed children at this moment, yes. |

That would imply we're citizens, which we're not.
Oh, and you really need to bone up on Trolling 101... this was a half-assed attempt at best. |

Ultimately the OP is of course right - there is definitely an us and them attitude on the penninsula - but I think he should have been a bit more tactful. He is probably just having a hard time in Korea - happens to us all. |

Why are you even worried about being accepted? I know when I was in Korea I hung out with other foreigners and partied pretty hard. I wasn't really too worried about what Koreans were thinking of me. Just finish your contract, save your money and go home. |
