This morning the stray dog we have taken in was chewing on his bone and managed to get a peice of my power cable. So now my power brick for my laptop is shot.
Sooo I am looking for a new one. I don't speak, or read korean so I need some help, and I am in Busan this year so I can't just swing by Yongsam.
Its a light on model PA1650-1
but any generic unit that meets these specs will do...
output 19v 3.42A
Input 100-240v
jack
Outside Diameter 5mm (roughly)
Inside Diameter 3mm (roughly)
Length 11mm (roughly)
Please if you can find me a webpage selling this send me the link. Or if you know someone selling them, give me a shout! If you can help me on this I will owe you a beer for sure. |

You could bring the brick to any store that sells laptops and ask them to order you the same one. That probably won't be cheap though. Maybe they will have one in stock that matches the spec of your old one.
What is the actual brand of your laptop? |

My laptop is a gateway, they have an office in Japan, but I have a feeling a replacement from them, through Japan will cost a bit. Sent an e-mail just to ask though.
I was hoping to find something in Korea, as I really don't want to pay ~$40 in shipping and wait a week + to get it. If it comes to that then I will.
In my town the only computer shop made a call and told me he had nothing that put out 19v. |

Can't you just splice your power cable back together? Isn't it just a +, -, and ground wire? Use some electrical tape.
Here's a little DIY link to get you started:

^probably a lot easier than this. Your dog probably only nipped one of the wires in his chewing escapades! Hope he's/she's ok! |

I would have spliced if i thought i could. I am fairly good at it (rebuilding motorbikes). But he broke the insulation through for the core. I have never sucessfully spliced thaty type of wire. I dont know the name, but it is like a wire wrapped in another wire.
I may try a splice, but I woud definatly prefer a new power brick. I thought they would be as easy to replacer here as back home...
Anyone find anything on the Korean computer parts places?? |

Since digging through the used bins at the market in Yongsan is not an option for you I guess you will be importing one from somewhere.
Most of the ones I looked at were 14.5-16 VDC output (3-5 amps).
The lower voltage would probably work but your battery would be slow to charge and may not charge fully or may slowly discharge during operation even while plugged in.
I don't know about matching the plug end.

Well, it looks like you're not going to have too much luck finding this thing locally. How about having it professionally fixed by an electrician or "electrician wannabe" at the computer warehouse. Some guy would probably solder that up for you for a few bucks if you asked them.
Give the guy a note that says this:
