Yeah yeah, touchy subject. Don't really care though. Korea is the sparkling capital of knock-off in my mind. The OS on my LG computer (from an LG store) is the copy they gave me.
So, on to DVDs. At home in the philippines, the quality of the knockoffs varies wildly. I bought one once that I think was more than one cell phone recording in a theater. The perspective changed more than five times!. At other times they simply are not functional.
What is the quality here? I don't really want to buy one on the street, and then travel 3 hours back to my town, just to find out they dont work....
Anyone? |

The guys at Yongsan are straight up. Ask if it is good quality and they will tell you honestly. Basically, anything out in the theatres now at home will likely be a handi-cam job. Occasionally though, some sneaky pirate has pilfered a screener copy, and so it is real DVD quality. Any movie or TV series that is already out on DVD at home is going to be top quality.
They all speak way better English than I do Korean, so just ask. |

I find almost all of the dvds are good quality. Occasionally, maybe 1 out of 8 dvds or so, will be a camcorder recording and this applies to just the new releases. If it's on dvd already, the street dvds are dvd quality. |

The best thing to do is download them yourself. Or at least grab the sample to check quality.
Yes, The guys selling the disks will tell you what the quality (TS, cam, dvd rip) is like sometimes if you are a regular customer. I wouldn't call them all straight up. It's business. The media they use is usually poor which is how they make $. |

I totally agree with the 1 out of 8 stat.
In fact...that's how many I got on my recent trip to Yongsan...everthing is top shelf DVD quality.
Die Hard 4 had audio issues.
4 movies for 10,000...pretty good deal.
If you're really concerned...lug your laptop with you! |
