There are lots to choose from.
Here is a recent one:
Quote: |
"My first reaction to watching the Iraqi government respond forcefully and to make it abundantly clear that -- I think the exact -- I can't remember the exact words of the Prime Minister, but "criminal elements" I know were a part of his declaration -- would be dealt with. I thought that was a very positive moment in the development of a sovereign nation, that is willing to take on elements that are -- you know, that believe they're beyond the law." |
-- George W. Bush, on the fighting in Basra |

George Bush: too dumb for words
Posted by Damian Lanigan
The genius of George W. Bush is that he's so flat out dumb he's made it impossible for people to talk about how dumb he is. What I mean is, you're not allowed to write about his cosmic stupidity because people will accuse you of crashing through an open door. But sometimes, the man says something so offensive, so asinine that writers should run the risk. Today is one of those times.
Some people, however, struggle with the whole door thing
Via Reuters this is what he said in a speech to various military people yesterday:
"I must say, I'm a little envious," Bush said. "If I were slightly younger and not employed here, I think it would be a fantastic experience to be on the front lines of helping this young democracy succeed."
"It must be exciting for you ... in some ways romantic, in some ways, you know, confronting danger. You're really making history, and thanks."
Romantic - that's the word, Georgey Boy. When first saw this I thought that I'd do a quick little piece wherein I'd blend elements of the Afghan war with the titles of Mills & Boon type fiction (two quick examples: "Longing for Spin Boldak" and "You Stole My Heart (After Beheading Me)"), but I couldn't get up any enthusiasm. I just wanted to crash through an open door. So here goes:
Envious? Weren't so envious of those fighting in Vietnam were you? Because if you had been, you might have volunteered to go fight with them rather than flying drunk over West Texas and attending treacherous barbecues at your rich friends' houses. When you say 'young democracy' I presume you mean this 'failing, fragmented narcostate wretched with ancient tribal hatred and atavistic religiosity'? Would it not be a somewhat liberal definition of 'excitement' that could include the feelings of most veterans of the Afghanistan campaign right now? Wouldn't 'terrified', 'exploited', 'desperate to see their families' or 'maimed' be more accurate? And yes, how 'romantic' it all is: dulce at decorum est, and all that Dubya, you got it. What a fool.
There: I feel a bit better now. |

Man, I'd love to have this guy as my president. I think they only had him so the population would actually feel more capable to fulfill the 'American Dream 'just because this brainless idiot made it. |

spliff's delivery of her character is yet again, on point.
it's really a great strategy - post something extremely dumb and controversial, then never respond to replies.
not the most entertaining troll on this site, but surely the most consistent and annoying. which is part of the appeal. |

You meant to say "here are," didn't you?
Poke fun at Bush all you want but I'll say this: the guy has a genuine sense of humor, unlike Kerry, he's never assumed that the Presidency was his for the taking, unlike Gore and Hillary Clinton, he's never had to wash his mouth out with soap like Perot, he's never tried to pass off others' eloquence as his own like Biden, he's never had to belch in public like Kennedy, he's never tried to hide behind euphemisms in describing his own conduct in office like Bill Clinton, he's never had to hang his head low in front of his wife since becoming a politician, he's never whooped it up in office like a teenager after a bong hit like Dean and he's never shown a mean streak in public, unlike McCain and countless Dems.
To this extent, at least, he's good-natured--and a class act. I'd much rather drink a cold beer on the back porch with him than any of the pretentious liberals who regularly casitgate him. That much I'm sure of. |
