|
|
I recently posted my resume online the other night, and received literally 10 email offers in a few hours.
What is the protocol, when handling all of these? Do I respond to all? Can I use some at the same time? Is it okay to ignore some emails? Can I put some on the back burner for later use or would that considered rude?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! |

Read through a couple pages on this forum, esp. the FAQs and stickies.
You are in demand in Korea, they can't fill the positions. Don't settle for less than your terms. Don't deal with dodgy recruiters (90% of them). Don't return any correspondence unless the job is what you want. Even if you never write or call back, they will work with you again in an instant.
Once a recruiter places you and gets you to sign a contract, they get paid. They have no further interest in your well-being. Job sucks and isn't what they described? Now they won't return YOUR calls and are laughing all the way to the bank. |

...Recruitment Body Fillers.
As per the previous post, don't settle for anything less than what you think is fair is terms of pay, teaching hours, student level, geographical assignment, housing, and all the other job benefits.
Contracts should directly, NOT INDIRECTLY, every topic that is critical.
And before submitting your documents for a visa # to apply for the visa, try to speak directly with the employer, and NOT JUST the recruitment agent.
Also, don't be afraid to negotiate with multiple recruiters simultaneously. They may be trying to fill the same positions, and may or may not discover your negotiations with competitor recruiters. Sometimes they talk to each other about candidates.
Nonetheless, hold firm to your reasonable expectations, and jettison demands to get 3.0m, a brand new, fully furnished apt, 20 days vacation, and less than 80 hours a month.
Good luck!

Recruiters are that desperate at the current moment. I wouldn't be surprised if they were to give in that easily. Good luck with that.
Ask the recruiter to:
A. Show you the apartment before you sign a contract.
B. Let you speak to another foreign teacher before signing a contract. If they are reluctant then you should really walk out.
C. Explain EXACT itemized deductions from what will be your salary. If they don't know the math and expect you to just agree with what they say, tell them to *beep* off.
Do not let the recruiter speak to you as if the job is already yours. Tell them up front you are only investigating positions and that you do not have an immediate answer for them. If they can't understand that, or if they refuse to understand that, it isn't your problem, they are simply wasting your time.
And above all else, if you DO agree to sign a contract with them, do NOT let them look over your shoulder wanting you to hurry up with the signature at the end, and do not let them avoid ANY articles on the contract. If you ask them a question, you expect an answer. |
