Why is it whenever I get Antibiotics from Korean doctors, I get a hoard of other tablets AS STANDARD. One of them is an Antiacid tablet (for Heartburn). The only reason I know is, is because I'm wise enough to use Google and search the tablet markers up (since no one ever gives you an actual box of tablets with instructions here...). I have a history of bad digestion, and these kind of tablets are likely to do more harm than good especially long term. And then ofcourse, there is the sore throat tablet - Who gets a tablet for sore throats? And then the extra strength pain killer, followed some others I don't know. And what irritates me even more is that my GF cannot understand why I don't want to keep taking hoards of tablets...
Coming from a family with lots of medical knowledge, I often feel like I know better than anyone else... As stubborn as that may sound. |

Most doctors here seem to think that the common cold is best fought off with antibiotics...
Tell me, how long have you been in the cesspool (Korea) and why do you stay?

A doctor will remove the unnecessary pills from the prescription if you ask. Or when your filling your prescription at the pharmacy make sure you only get the pills that are required.
At our hospital, we make a point of telling our patients exactly what each pill is for and we can dispense them in different packages if the patient requests it. |

Actually I have the flu/glandular fever and/or some kind of viral infection yet to be properly tested for, so antibiotics is the first step in fighting it. I don't have a "common cold". Does it actually work out cheaper if you have the extra pills removed from a subscription? |

ummm....
antibiotics don't work against a virus.....
An antibiotic is a chemotherapeutic agent that inhibits or abolishes the growth of micro-organisms, such as bacteria, fungi, or protozoa.
Antiviral drugs are a class of medication used specifically for treating viral infections.
Did they give you anything useful other than stuff for symptom relief?

Whatever ails you will be cured by 5 pills. Always five. Oh...and a shot in the rear. |

If you ask for them to remove the extra pills it would be cheaper. |

Um well I don't know what I have. I'm assuming Flu, my symptoms are weakness (when going out), sore throat, congestion in the back of the throat, dizzyness, night time sweats, occasional chills, headaches and severe sweating when standing for long periods (no idea why).. Oh, and swollen glands on the left side of my neck. During the daytime it's touch and go, but during the evening it really sets in bad. It especially comes on bad if I've used lots of energy during the day. If not, I tend to feel pretty ok. I was recovering, at least it seemed so, but this week I've had a relapse of symptoms.. To me that seems like flu or glandular fever.
Been going on for 2.5 weeks now. |

I got many tabs like that once, and my wife (ex-nurse) told me that they were all for.
All I remember was that one was for digestion, one or two for killing pain, and etc., etc..
They worked fine, whereas western tabs may have the 5 combined into a 'one size fits all' pill.
Are your symptoms any better?
The swollen glands (neck or underarm) and chills in the bones sounds like classic flu.
I got flu a few months ago too, boy it's stubborn here. Some days I get symptoms. I found the key is keeping warm, even to the point of sweating in bed at night. |
