OK, in all candor, I did something dumb and now need help from those of you who really DO know computers. I plainly don't.

I downloaded pfconfig (from portforward.com) on the belief that it would somehow magically solve all my problems with connecting to torrents and P2P from behind a university firewall. (Until they catch me, possibly, but that can always wait.)

Now it seems that I have absolutely no idea about routers, whether my computer even has one (is it inside the tower?), and so don't know what to do with the pfconfig settings, if anything. (I've got to prompt it with the manufacturer name and number of my router. But do I even have a router? Yeah, yeah, I know, should have thought of that beforehand! Call me dumbass; I deserve it.)

Yes, BTW, I've torrified, and proxified my utorrent and emule. Utorrent now hobbles along, emule just barely crawls.

The thirty bucks I blew on pfconfig may simply be wasted, I don't know.

Anyone with a word of advice for me?

sorry to say but if you are behind a uni firewall you probably have wasted the money as uni firewalls are set up to block that kind of traffic.

This web site tells a way to bypass the firewall without a port scan (attack).

You could do a port scan and firewall test to find an open port and change your utorrent to that port. Be careful. Do the test on someone else's computer. The network admin may catch you and they will know which computer did it.
Often a sys op will not have done a perfect job of closing ports or they leave a few open on purpose. I think Utorrent 1.7.7 will allow you change your port.
