I had a friend who worked with me. He had a phone under the name of the company. He kept ending up with bills of 500,000 won and even once 800,000 won. He asked for an itemized bill, and they said it couldn't be done or made some kind of excuse. Anyway, I did and so another colleague buy him phone cards to call the Phillipines where he called regularly. How could someone have jacked up his bill since it was a cell phone. I can understand with a land-line since someone could go into your apartment and make calls, but not a cell phone.

Holy cow! A mobile phone calling to the Phillipines, that's gonna cost a fortune.

When I first came to Korea, and I got my land line phone installed, I called my mum for 30 minutes to her land line. The 30 minute call cost me 100 000 won. Mobile phone costs are extortionate especially when you are calling abroad because more tariffs are involved.

He said he used phone cards, though.

Mobile phones can be a real rip off. Although I see what you mean about the phone cards Adventurer. Seems ridiculous.

When I took my Swedish mobile to England and my Swedish friends used to call me, it used to cane my credit. Why I am I paying for them phoning? In the end I just had to tell people not to call me because it cost so much. My English friend came to Sweden to visit me, his girlfriend called him for 30 minutes from England, she got charged 40 000 won and my friend got charged 100 000 won. How do they calculate these things exactly? Mobile phone companies are all well and good selling you the damn thing but they really can burn a hole in your pocket and be a little vague when you want to get some more info. Rolling Eyes

What I am saying is how did my friend end up with a huge bill?
Could the company have had added another phone to the plan somehow and charged him?

Question - If I make an international phone call, using a calling card, will I just be charged the regular amount for outgoing calls (by my cell phone company) , or will I be charged extra?

Depends. If you call a cell phone, it costs more. I use to use the 00727 prefix, but my g.f. turned me on to the cards. You'll save a bundle. Talk to someone you know who has been here awhile, they should know.
