Not to blow this story outta proportion or anything, but has this been posted yet?

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/asia/article3648882.ece

I'm about as scared of North Korea as I am of living next to a dormant volcano -- I don't lose any sleep or anything, but every now and then it clicks in that I'm tempting fate to some extent...

I wouldn't say it was nothing to be worried about. It is a threat that is a lot more real than future terrorism in the United States (IMHO). It is an organized, armed country that is threatening extremely violent action against it's closest neighbour while the two are still technically at war. For all we know, they're greasing the artillery barrels all along the DMZ as we speak.

Just when I'm already second guessing my decision to come to Korea.... I'd say if this escalates it would deter a lot of teachers, including myself! Confused

It shouldn't. Before the Roh administration the North put out quotes like this every month. Actually if you look back they actually cycled their quotes every 4 months. I think the "turning Seoul into a sea of fire" quote came around about every 4 months. They are just spewing crap again because the President Lee is a complete 180 from president Roh. I expect Roh will be given North Korean citizenship any day now. President Lee takes a hard line on North Korea and could careless about their whining, bellyaching and temper tantrums.

The North threatened to kick out all the Southern administrations out of Kaesong a week ago and Lee said no problem we will take them out for you. The North was pissed about this so they fired a couple of missles to see what Lee would do. Lee kept a steady hand and stayed on message. If this had happened last year the Roh administration would have huge turds in their pants and would have apologized about a million times. Actually this never would have happened with the Roh administration because the minute the North threatened to kick the South out of Kaesong they would have sent a $1 000 000 to Lil' Kim along with some new porn.

My point is there is nothing to worry about. North Korea has been saying this crap for years now. There was a lull because the Roh admin. bowed to the North's every whim, but now we are back to the status quo. The status quo being the North spewing out a bunch of crap and the rest of the world ignoring them. Things are as they should be.

Like Typhoon said, this kind of shit is commonplace for NK. They're those kids in school who talked big game and never did a thing cause they knew they'd get their faces stomped in the moment they gave people an excuse to throw punches.

The funny thing is when the UN Security council started drafting sanction resoultions and the North said if sancitons were applied they would consider it an act of war and respond in kind. Many in the military including myself at that time thoguht that a second Korean war ways days away and the end of North Korea in sight, but after 3 resolutions and the North never even fired a single shot. This leads me to beleive the North's military is probabaly nothing more then a paper tiger now.

What could get interesting is the LMB government's approach to the North's brinkmanship. They threatened to cut off aid if the North doesn't start co-operating. I know these kinds of threats have been uttered before but this government has an openly harder stance.

I think things could get a little escalated this time.

I agree. Nothing can happen because KJI knows that I and many others might die, but KJI will die more.

IMO, tensions will escalate because of SK's new stance with regards to the North, but China will hold the North firmly in check in the coming months. They may have already chastised them for this kind of rhetoric and missile firing so close to the Olympics. If NK started really threatening SK, the whole world would pull out of the Olympics.

I've also heard that it helps to acquire the ability to understand that a response to a joke (when followed by a smilie) is usually also a joke as well.

Yea as in "How can you die more?" hahaha, what an idiot.

Let's not pretend son.

Smilies are the online equivalent of laughing at your own joke. Not cool.
