4.5 would be an automatic NO from me, but I like 5. I'm pretty sure you cannot contract away your severance pay, so you could possibly get both if you fought it.

Should be in contracts.

"1. JOB DESCRIPTION
The employee will be responsible for conducting professional, well-planned English language classes. OK
The employee may also be assigned by the Director to other education related duties, such as teachers meetings, staff training sessions, workshops, daily schedules, report cards and new student interviews. THAT SOUNDS A LOT LIKE WEEKENDS AND NIGHTS.
The employee may also be required to be present in uniform attire at marketing events, for which the employee will be compensated at the following rates: 30,000 won/hr for events held outside the campus, WOULDN'T THAT BE ILLEGAL AS IT'S NOT AT YOUR WORK ADDRESS?
25,000 won/hr for events held inside the campus.

2. WORKING HOURS
Teaching hours are normally from 2pm to 8pm. These hours are subject to change due to public school sessions, school summer and winter vacations, and others. AND OTHERS? IT MEANS DON'T HOLD YOUR BREATH, WE CAN AND WILL DO ANYTHING WE WANT WITH YOU.
The employer retains the sole right to schedule the employee based on the requirements of the employer. SEE ABOVE.

4. SALARY

4.1 The employer shall pay the employee a salary of 2.6 million won per month. The employee will be required to provide 30 hours of classroom instruction per week. The employee may be required to perform administrative duties as part of these hours. The employee will also be expected to put in additional time necessary to prepare for classes and to be present at teachers meetings. 2.6 IS OK, AND ADMIN AS PART OF HOURS IS OK, BUT HOW MUCH PREP ARE THEY EXPECTING? JUST FOR YOUR CLASSES, OR OTHERS AS WELL. REMEMBER, YOU'RE ALREADY DOING THE STUFF LISTED IN #1.

4.2 The employees salary shall be paid at the end of each month. If this day falls on a national holiday, Saturday or Sunday, the salary will be paid on the immediately preceding business day. OK

4.3 ALL overtime must be agreed to by the Director and the employee PRIOR to any being taken. Payment for overtime work is subject to agreement between the Director and the employee. If no separate agreement is negotiated, the employee will be paid at a rate of 25,000 won per hour. NOPE. OVERTIME IS OPTIONAL. THE EMPLOYEE CAN REFUSE.
4.4 Korean income taxes (3.5%) will be withheld from the employees salary every month. BULLSHIT. IT'S WHATEVER THE GOVT WEB SITE SAYS IT SHOULD BE.
4.5 Once medical bills are approved, 50% will be paid out to the employee through the Employees' Health Plan which is administered by GnB. HUH? DONT KNOW WHAT THAT IS. EMPLOYEE WILL BE SIGNED UP FOR NATIONAL HEALTH CARE.

5. BONUS
In lieu of severance pay, a bonus of 2.6 million won will be paid to the employee at the end of contract year after NOPE AGAIN. IT'S CALLED SEVERANCE PAY. IF THEY CALL IT A BONUS, THEN THEY MAY TRY AND SAY A BONUS MUST BE "EARNED" AND YOU DIDN'T "EARN" IT.

PENSION.
RETURN AIR FARE.
SINGLE OCCUPANCY APARTMENT.

SUCKS. SUCKS. SUCKS.

The mention of health in the contract seems to be strange in some way ... It said that after the medical bills are approved ... the employer will pay half of them ... Normally it would say that the employer will pay half of the premiums ...

The way it reads is that the employer has to approve the medical bills which would seem to imply they need to know exactly what they are for (and personally some privacy is important to me) ... But then the employee has to pay half of the actual bill.

Along with the fact that you say they do not mention pension ... I would have a high level of concern with this employer ...

1. Loads of extra work. Report cards, marketing.....

2. The work hours are uniform and not open to change. They should put in a solid working day, not are normally, subject to change and employer retains the sole right

4. 30 hours instruction is loads. That's 30 x 60 minute lessons = 1800 minutes a week. Many hagwons have 45 x 30 = 1350 minutes a week. That's about an extra 9 hours a week. No breaks outlined. Pay high, but is it worth it. If you've got quals then find something else.

4.2 Needs salary date. At the end of the month is not good enough.

4.4. Tax is not a fixed amount. 3.5% a little on the high side

4.5 No chance with the health insurance. It's a 50/50 contributory base. With the NHIC scheme.
After the Bill Kapoun accident. I'd advise anybody who sees that Health insurance is missing or not with NHIC to tell the employer to go stick it. This is a must!

No pension. You'd have to put the rest up to just marvel at how bad it can be. Somebody will sign this contract I hope it isn't you. Leg it!
