I didn't know until I was at the gas station, trying to pay for gas that my wallet was missing. No, it couldn't possibly be missing, as I clearly remembered putting it back in my bag after lunch. And I also, got 5,000 won out of it to pay a co-teacher. I keep my bag in the teachers desk in my assigned classroom. (foolish me, to have listened to the Principal as he said, you can leave your bag in there with no worries, all the kids who attend this school are excellent students, and Korean children never steal). Shocked One of the kids must have did a quick hit n run, while I was on a bathroom break or something? Well, whichever ba$tard took it made off with a little over 200,000 won totally a bummer! But even more bummed that a photo taken over 60 years ago of my mother and deceased grandmother are gone with the wallet too. Just lights me up to know that whoever took off with my wallet is going to just toss it along with my sentimental memories and attachments like they never existed. I would have felt better if they would have just took the money out and left my wallet in my bag. I called to cancel cards, and no 14 year olds have attempted to make a charge to a room salon on it, yet. And what did the Principal have to say? Korean children are not taught to steal, so it's impossible. Everyone has become a suspect now. Today, I felt no love for any of my classes. Please leave your valuable sentimentals at home or in a safe place to enjoy forever. And beware of those sticky fingers that don't "steal" Maybe, someone just borrowed it? Another Korean teacher had mentioned this happened twice last year. I just wish to get my photo back..........................A$$ head Principal didn't even throw an insincere apology out...

You're the "asshead" for believing him. Live and learn. But, I would expect someone to learn this lesson at the age of 14 or so.

Myabe it was another teacher, not a student. I had 200,000 missing at work a few months ago. happened twice. Now, I keep a watch on my purse. At one of my previous schools, too, teachers were getting money stolen from their bags in the teachers' room. Either don't take big sums of money to work or carry your stuff around with you all day...or if you leave your bag somewhere...booby trap it by putting a piece of paper on top of it or a sheet of stickers on top. Then you will come back and see if someone messed with it.

Better yet, stick a couple loaded mouse traps in there.

The pulling fireworks work as well for a trap just to alert others. That is, of course, if you work in a hagwon with screaming children, then it may be a little harder to do.

Decoy wallet. leave it on the desk with a loaded rat trap. Screw these little mouse traps, and screw anyone who says "but they're only children." They are thieving little fecks that deserve a broken finger if they want to steal from teachers.

Shame on you for believing that stealing is a learned behavior... really... taking something you want it a natural thing. The awareness of boundaries etc is learned. You honestly thought that in a country where corruption has been labeled as a good thing for countless generations, with one of the biggest bankruptcy in history (Daewoo) and the grandest falsification of studies in medical history (at least to my knowledge; stem cell reseach) you think that honesty is really valued? You are a foreigner, a meat puppet for their amusement. They can steal your soul, why not your wallet?

Yes, there are countless good Koreans. Yes, there are countless people in the world that are good. BUT it only takes one fuclctard to ruin your day/life.

Wow... something must be bothering me, that last paragraph was pretty rough... oh wait, my hagwon...

The only lifted wallets/purses/bags I hear about in Korea are from people going to bars and leaving them sitting around or from people's schools. Money is meant to be spent, kept in your pocket or secured behind a lock and key.

Teachers at my school have had money stolen. All the teachers carry their bags with them everywhere. I leave mine under my desk in the office but I lock my valuables in my desk drawers.

I was warned at the start of the year to not leave anything lying around.

Thieving sods!!

I don't work at a 학원 but my wife did. Just about a year ago someone stole her purse. Long story short she had her pin number in the purse we lost $10,000 USD.

Moral of the story don't leave your pin number in your purse/wallet. The korean police said they couldn't do anything about it.

That was pretty crappy. But you gotta move on. I'm sure losing 200,000 won sucks, be glad it wasn't worse. We don't know who did it but i'm pretty sure it was a delivery guy. Oh yeah and be sure to put a reasonable limit on your credit card. You can't really limit how much money comes outta your bank account. So just be careful.

No, no cameras in the classroom. And the windows are frosted, so no eye witnesses there. What really angers me, is that the Principal didn't even bother putting a warning out to other teachers, nor did he ask any of the students. One of the teachers suggested having drawers with locks, but he said, that wouldn't help much?? WTF? Aside from feeling totally bummed about losing my precious photos, the day of the theft, I had bought snacks for all of my classes. If that's not a big have a great F@ckin day shout out to ya teacher. I don't know what is. You show them your kindness and somebody rips ya off!

I think the OP's the "chump" (including you cause you're a plonker)! Me, I don't leave money laying about the office because if it got stolen I'd have ZERO recourse, DUH!!!!!

I am sure banks can help and try to recover the money with their CCTV from the holes in the wall. But a bit stupid keeping your PIN Number in your wallet/purse. I just keep mine in my head.
