|
|
I have a Visa interview coming up shortly for a Korean job, and I'm not really sure what to expect. I've reviewed a couple of accounts that say it takes five minutes. One of the harder (?) questions asked was "Who is the President of South Korea?" Also, a lot of the information I have is old. All of my documentation has been sent, the Consulate has my passport, can anyone tell me how I should prepare (besides being polite, prompt, and properly dressed)?
Thanks from a Newbie. |

Do you use / have you used illegal drugs?
Do you have / have you had any contagious illnesses?
Have you ever needed treatment for a mental illness?
Do you have / have you ever had HIV/AIDs?
Do you have a record of criminal activity?
Did you graduate from University? When did you graduate?
How long were you there? What is your major?
Taken from the immigration website.

Oddly enough, I thought we could skip those since I already filled out forms with that information on them... Thanks.
Any other experiences? How long does it take usually? |

Many times the interviewer does NOT speak very good English. Your interview will take about 5 minutes. It is just a simple formality to confirm the answers on your application.
It's a no stress thing. Don't worry or lose any sleep over it.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about it at all.
My interview probably didn't even last 5 minutes. They didn't ask me if I had HIV, had taken drugs, or had been arrested. They just asked me what I knew about Korea, where I'd be working, what university I graduated from, what my major was, when I graduated, etc.
My guess is it'd be difficult to fail it. |

Let them know you are a big fan of the show MASH. The fun begins when you arrive in korea. After the first month you will find out you dont get health insurance, pension and they pocket your monthly taxes. Dont let them tell you its too expensive. |

Wow, that was actually cool and relatively painless. My interviewer spoke perfect English, asked about my school and my degree (for those reading this down the road, remember to bring a cheat sheet with your Korean address and your university address and phone number). He wanted to know what I knew about Korea, and asked why I wanted to go. The whole process took less than ten minutes. By the way, if anyone is in Korea, in the countryside, please drop me a line, I'd like to hear about your experiences as well (or read your travelblogs). |

If the interviewer puts on a latex glove, then perhaps you should worry. Otherwise, not. |

Do you have to go to a Korean consulate for an interview or do they do them over the phone? |

I'm pretty sure you have to do them in person, making the process a giant pain in the ass for people that don't leave near a Korean consulate. |
