So what do you do? You open up your email box, and in it sits an invitation to be friends. From one of your parents. What do you do? I'll have to admit, a certain dread washed over me, then again, when I slowly realized I can't just ignore this friend request on Facebook. I'm going through all the photos removing tags of me from some "party" photos and whatnot. But damn, I'm kinda mad. Do you accept your parent as a "Facebook Friend?" |

You can change your privacy settings so that your parents can only see what you let them see i.e. just your info page. Didn't have to untag yourself in every photo. |

^^^ I agree. Just change your privacy settings and you're set. |

Wow, your parents must suck. My mother is on my Facebook, so are a ton of pictures of me at shisha bars, me with drunk friends etc. My parents have the decency to trust me and my judgment. Why would any parents get angry about seeing their son/daughter having a drunk ol' time in their pictures? |

Haha, maybe he wasn't referring to drunken times. |

My mom is on my Facebook, along with half my family tree. But not my sister. I wish she'd join up already! |

news flash: employers scour the internet for information about you. you should assume that any pics stored on the internets can (and will) be viewed by anyone who cares enough to spend the time and the effort. privacy settings might make you feel better, but they aren't infallible. a better solution would be to kick the crack habit. |

I ignored all my family on Facebook.
I only have two friends, two lads from back home who are incompetent at keeping in touch, but for some reason Facebook works for us.
They have 100s of friends.
Don't like it much, but it's handy sort of.
My brother was pretty narked that I ignored him. Explained why and he was more understanding, albeit still pretty annoyed.
FFS he's 40 years old, he should be doing DIY not playing around on a social networking site. |

Nah. They're cool...but I also don't make friends with co-workers. I have boundaries I adhere to. I don't want to be "friends" with my parents, though we are friendly.
Thanks for the advice on settings, works like a charm. |

My old man was on facebook incognito for a while, then once he realised all his friends were on there as well, the beast was unleashed. He has nearly three times as many friends as I do.
But yeah, limited profile setting is a godsend. I hate having tagged pics of me anyway....I think it's kinda vain and pointless. |

My parents and I are very close, and I don't do anything so immoral that they'd be outraged anyway so I wouldn't have a problem with it. Lucky for me they feel they're too old for facebook, and also even if they had an account they wouldn't add me since they respect my privacy.
With that said I'd consider adding them if I lived far away and they wanted a different way to stay in touch with me. |

I'm Facebook friends with my mum and aunts. My friends are even facebook friends with my mum. She's cool. She sees photos of me partying my arse off or videos of me stoned and just rolls her eyes and laughs. I've never hidden anything at all from her.
I think I would have to detag a few photos if my dad was on Facebook though. You know, dads and their daughters... |
