crowd of koreans surrounded a t.v as they pulled out their flag in pride over their "astronaut" (space tourist). I asked my students "So, did korea build and design the rocket? .........everyone looked sort of down after that.

Every Canadian to go to space hitched a ride on an American space shuttle. Everything you have built had to be launched by NASA.

I suppose it goes both ways. There are a lot of complaints on here about Koreans who boast about how great Korea and its people are. Looks like there are a bunch of foreigners here who take every opportunity to remind Koreans how inferior they are.

you are an idiot, do I have to give you a list of Canadians that work for N.A.S.A??

and by the way, when we did go into space, we didn't make the other astronauts try maple syrup and moosehead beer live on t.v....and there were no parades and flag waving.

This reminds me of the big list of Canadian inventions somebody posted on here. You can be sure I thought Canada was a big important country after I read that list. There's nothing better than national scorekeeping.

Seriously, a bunch of kids get excited about their astronaut and you just have to sh*t on it. Why not just steal their candy and poke them in the eye while you're at it? If you have such a problem with flag waving, reconsider your avatar.

Seriously Todd Swift...chillax....its not like they are rubbing it other peoples faces...they are proud of their fellow countryman (woman).
That was a dick move. Sometimes it is best to shut up and put up and for you that was one of them....

I agree with what the OP did. It is not so much a thing of being proud of their country, but it is the way they do it. Why would kids be so proud of a countryman taking a space trip? It's Korean nationalism plain and simple spread to the kids from their whack-job parents.

Seriously, I've never seen such xenophobia and unjustified "pride" in any other country before, and I'm currently living in China. The Chinese are absolutely placid compared to Koreans.

Been to China much? The Chinese are well aware about Tibet, TianAnMen Square, the Taiwan issue etc. I thought they were rabid nationalists too before coming to China. They are nationalistic, but more rational about it.

In my (and other's experiences), Koreans are far worse. Chinese people are awesome my friend, you'd be surprised. I certainly was.
