new, body only 450,000 won.
although, i don't know why the hell you'd buy one. D40, D40x, D60 and D80 are all better cameras.
D70 is no longer made. it's a seriously outdated camera. every other camera in nikon's line up is superior technology.
you might pick one up used for 300k (with a base lens 18-70mm), but that's still not a very good investment. |

Take a look at the Samsung GS-1X camera too. It's a rebranded Pentax. I was looking at the Nikon cameras until I found this gem (do a google search and check out some reviews). You can use the Samsung lenses AND the older Pentax lenses. |

you're kidding right??? you clearly know nothing about cameras, so don't embarrass yourself by giving your expert opinion based on zero knowledge ... and that includes your unique spelling of the word 'lens'.
you're actually referring to focus drives, not zoom. ALL SLR/DSLR cameras have manual zoom. only 'point and shoot' cameras use motorized zoom lenses.
The D80 has focus drive motor, but D40 and D40x dont. However, DX lenses (ie, all new lenses for cropped sensor cameras) are electronically focused, where the focus drive pin isn't needed, and not built into the camera's mount.
The focus drive motoris only a priority for people who own old lenses and want to make them work with new bodies. In which case, the D80 would be fine ...
btw, the new D60 doesn't have the focus drive motor either ... so you'd be wanting to buy DX lenses ... which is no big deal ... most of the good consumer/prosumer lenses are DX anyway.
as i said in my previous post, steer clear of the D70. it's not a bad camera, it's just seriously outdated. |

A TINY nitpick...
You CAN use old lenses with the D40 or D40X, you just have to use your hands to focus. I'm not sure why people are so afraid of their hands... Hell, there are times that you'll have to manually focus even with a D80 because sometimes it just can't focus where you want it to. (I had this problem taking photos of something white this weekend.)
(And SuperDave, I know you know this, but other people seem to have this weird idea that the entire lens doesn't work, which just isn't true.) |

quite right ... i thought that was logical. sorry, i'll learn to be less obtuse!
if the body doesn't have the focus drive motor, then you can always focus the lens manually.
my leica is 100% manual. so i have to focus manually every time ... it's really not that difficult. |

I actually own a D70. I paid 750 for it last July and this included a zoom lens 2g of memory, case etc 2 batteries and an adapter so I could plug it in a western style outlet. I have taken it to Cambodia, Indonesia and Taiwan and I love it. I actually know other people with the same camera too. The battery lasts a long time too. 2 weeks in Indonesia, took 1000 photos and never charged or changed the battery once. |

I actually have a Nikon D40 that i'm looking to sell (I'm thinking of upgrading or changing....just need some cash on hand for some lovely tax issues back home...gotta love being double taxed....stupid Canadian Rev Agency) I bought it about a year ago (cherry blossom time) and I got the body, both lenses (the 18-55mm and 50-220 -i think 220mm) lenses, two UV filters, a bag, a tripod, and a 1 gig memory card. I paid 800 000 won for the every thing, I'd be looking for 650 000 (price is semi negotiable). its an awesome camera, and I'd totally buy it again...I might actually upgrade to the d40x. I've taken some really awesome photos with this cam....my first SLR cam, and it rocks. Let me know if you or anyone you know might be interested....I'm living in Sanbon, just south of Seoul, but have no problems running into seoul to deliver. Cheers! |

lol ... i have an R5 SLR with a summicron f2 50mm lens.
i decided to get an slr, rather than the rangefinder, since i've been away from film for too long and wanted to ease myself back into it gently ... however, a rangefinder (probably M5) is on the list of things to buy down the track.
***
btw, i'm not saying that the D70 is a bad camera. in its day, it was a great piece of kit.
however, today i'd strongly urge against buying one. if you own a D70, i'm sure you love it ... but bang for buck, you can do a lot better these days. |
