I have morning classes twice a week. They pay me extra for it and that's fine , but it's makes my day extra long as it starts at 7:30 . I already teach 22 hours a week as my contract states . My question is can I just "say no"?

To put it simply:
Yes..
If you work outside of your contracted hours by the sounds of your 22 classes you're a public school teacher. They have to PAY you the going private rate not Public school rate (lame 20k/hour).. Its outside of the 9 to 6 time you should ask the standard 45k/hour.
You're an adult NO one can make you do something you don't want to.. Stand up to them..
Don't worry lots of the people have the same problem. I have to go through the same shit again.. Koreans just don't fucking understand the word NO and that it means NO not maybe or possibly. |

I got asked to do extra on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:15am to 9:00am. They asked me. I said yes. They wouldn't have killed me if I'd said no. As Temporary says, it's up to you and your contract should say that too.
Really comes down to you. I teach 5 lessons on those days now, so it's pretty packed. They do seem to have upped the working for PS teachers, now that English-ee is No.1 priority for the government. I only actually teach 18 hours even though my contract says 22. The five extra hours I teach I get paid extra because they're outside the normal 1st to 6th period, and I'm still home by 5:20pm.
Thing is with 8:20 classes out in the countryside schools the kids are half asleep at that time. |

If this is the case, then they cannot force you to teach more than those 22 hours. They can only ASK, and you have to say yes. Tell them no if you don't want to do the classes. Nothing they can do to force you to do them. |

Last term I taught a morning class from 8:00 am to 8:45 am. The class was added to my schedule in the morning because the waiting list for my after-school class was getting too long.
When I agreed to the morning class, my co-teacher asked me to be "discreet" when discussing my schedule with other public school teachers because of it apparently being "illegal" to have classes before the school day starts.
Not sure if there's any truth in it, but they seemed concerned. |

Is 45,000원/hour the new rate? I guess I'm out of the loop; seems like just yesterday it was 40,000원! |
