So I moved into my new apartment in Seoul which is all 220v. I plugged my PC to a surge protector (6 plugs) to a Korean to US convertor plugged my PC and heard a HUGE POP sound coming from my Power supply unit. After a few colorful words I unplugged everything and was in complete disbelief. I unplugged everything and with an adapter I plugged my PC to the wall with the power supply set at 220somthing...

AGAIN POPPP this time with smoke....
now I am in my knees weeping over my PC...
I am praying that it is just a matter of replacing my PSU .

Question for you all...

what did I do wrong??

What advice can you offer when using US voltage items in Korean homes with power convertors..

Was your "converter" actually just a plug adapter (little thing), small voltage adapter (about the size of a laptop power brick) or was it really a step down transformer (box about the size of a toaster)?

It makes a HUGE difference.

Haaaa... I had no idea what I was thinking.

I am relieved to say that everything is all good now. The PSU didn't fry my motherboard.

I cant explain why it happened. According to the PC tech dude I plugged everything in properly.
SHEEESH

TTompatz, yes it was the transformer. A heavy shoebox like thing.

Spliff... YOU ARE Crazy... Very Happy .

Did you check the PSU in setting 220 instead of 110?
