I imagine that this has already been covered, but I couldn't find it. Am I the only person obsessed with removing the clear and blue plastic that is on new stainless steel? It seems like Koreans never remove this before they install or assemble stuff. Why is this? I can understand keeping it on the interior of a car for a while, but I always find stuff that is old that still has it on. Why even have stainless steel if you never enjoy its finest quality of being stainless?

I hate it when they screw screws down into it, and it won't all come off around the screws. This happened on my garbage disposal in my last home.

- plastic film on vinyl door/window frames bearing the manufacturer's name;

- clear plastic film on hand phone LCD screens;

- informative decals on digital cameras, camcorders, mp3 players, and other personal electronic devices;

- similar decals as above, but on refrigerators, washing machines, TVs, DVD players, and other appliances / home electronics;

- bar-code stickers on the windows of recently purchased (and not-so-recently purchased) cars.

Stainless steel doesn't remain 'stainless' long. it can get pretty dirty and scratched and beat up pretty fast, and I suppose the leaving it on is kind of a protection factor, at least when it's clear and doesn't interfere with the product. Take it to a national obsession level, and, gentlemen and ladies, you see where you are.

That may be a reason. I also once in a while leave a clear plastic protector on things like new phone caller ID screens, etc., though I don't go crazy.

A pet hate of mine too.

Why get stainless steel if you are going to leave the covering on it? Just use some cheaper metal that can rust undet the plastic. Retarded.

Hygiene issues in restaurants too.

K-'tradesmen' are lazy!

When I first came to K-land my apartment kitchen had just been renovated - new cabinets, sink, counter and plumbing fixtures. EVERYTHING had been installed/assembled while still covered in the blue, plastic, protective film! I spent hours trimming around screw heads with an exacto knife and peeling off yards of the stuff.

its weird. as a previous poster stated stainless is really expensive but it looks really good so why keep the cover on. why not use galvinised? we live in an apt block which is about 5 years old and people still have their window frames covered with the manufacturers protective film.
cant say it bugs me but i just find it strange.
on a different note im a big fan of the stickers on cars which tell you their mpg - definately worth ;looking at when you buy a new motor.

perhaps they have a different appreciation for the word "aesthetics" in this part of the world.

it's the same reason every room is lit with eye-burning neon instead of, say, a lamp.

backin china you'd see people riding no longer new bicycles with years old packaging plastic still protecting the frame.

quaint but not really hurting anything.
