|
|
The website auction.co.kr has been hacked, and 10 million Koreans have now had their private information, including name, ID number, address, etc., stolen. Enough information was stolen that it can be used to open new accounts with other sites and access/change passwords on current sites.
My wife is pretty upset over it. It's big news at the moment. The hack came from overseas -- possibly China. |

At this point, they are saying no, but it appears about everything else was.
My wife is changing her passwords to every other site. |

This is the first time I won't complain about Korean website being difficult for or inaccessible to foreigners. |

I cashed out my E*Trade account last month, but I had to call them the other day to get cost basis information to do my taxes. One of their security questions was what internet service provider I used the last time I logged in. When I told her, she said I was wrong. I asked her what she meant since I was on the same computer in the same room as the last time I had logged in. She said I had last logged in from Malaysia.
I've never been to Malaysia. I went to Singapore last June, but I change my passwords at least once a month. I know I haven't fallen for any phishing schemes. I'm just glad my account had a zero balance when the Malaysians logged in or I guess they would've wiped me out. In surfing the internet, I've read where a lot of E*Trade customers have been wiped out with E*Trade wiring their money to elsewhere in the United States and Russia. Other posters on the websites discussing the problem were telling the victims they had fallen for phishing schemes and the victims were swearing that they didn't, and I really don't think they had. |
