Hi--thanks for reading, and would very much appreciate some feedback..
To make a long story short, I left a school 7 months into my contract for another school. I gave 30 days notice, and we left on good terms, and I have a release letter.
However, the new school lied to me about many many things, and its a really bad living and work environment. The entire foreign staff quit, including me, and gave 30 days. But then the school freaked out, and tried to get everyone to stay, some are and some are not. I think I will stay maybe until May1, or June 1 if the negotiations work out. But, there are now many issues that arose and I'm not sure about the answers.....I do want to stay in SK and teach, so what do you think?.......
1) I do not have my CRC
2) My realease letter is dated March 14th. On April 4th, I went to Immigration, and they said that my former school has not cancelled my VISA yet. If I leave the country, will I come into any issues? Would that be considered a midnight run? should I talk to my old school and ask them not to cancel my VISA and work at this place until my CRC comes in and apply for a new job? What if the old school says no?
2) I heard that the school has to cancel my VISA within 14 days after I quit. Can my former school backdate my last day. For example, can they call or go to immigration on May 1 and say that my last day was March 14th? If so, what does that mean for me? Also, my E-2 is up Sept 4.
3) I do need to go home before Sept or Oct, and was thinking of working at my current place until May 1 or June 1, then applying for summer camp work, then line up a job for September, then go home and then start the year job in September. Or, just lining up a job for Aug 1 or Sept 1. If I go the summer camp route, I will buy the plane ticket myself home. If I dont go the summer camp route, can I negotiate time off for two weeks with the new school, and negotiate the plane ticket?
4) What should I say to prospective employers when they ask me why I left the school before my contract ended? It was a pretty good school and I do not want to say anything negative about them.
5) whats the deal with VISA transfering? I heard that only after 10 months a school can transfer your VISA.
6) How does the money in my pension work into all of this?
I think that's about it......thank you for reading and replying, I look forward to hearing all of your feedback!

I knew someone in a similar position and I can guarantee you, your pension won't be affected. It is based solely on the work that you have done. Unless of course your employer was dishonest and didn't contribute. But that is another story entirely. |

Wow, that's a difficult situation.
I mean trying to get 2 (or in your case potentially 3) work visas issued within the space of 12 months - is always going to be problematic.
If Immigration sees a previous work visa is incomplete, then that could be a factor in considering whether a consulate will issue a further one. They could request an interview and ask questions about the previous situation.
The best thing to do is to finalize the paperwork at your school + with immigration here, get the current visa cancelled, and then go home to start the new process.
The summer camp idea is a bad one. It will cause even more complication. As there is a high probability that you would almost certainly have to exit and re-enter at the completion of that as well.
Infact I would even go as far as getting a new blank passport issued - as Korean immigration do not need any 'reminders' of past visas, to be used as grounds for a future visa rejection (and this is not illegal). |
