Does anyone know if there is a Statute of limitations on claiming back-pension from a boss who didn't pay? I know I would have to go down to the office and pay my half but I just was thinking about it recently and wondered about this. (The job ended in December of 2006)

| Did they pay the NTS your montly taxes? I dont think there is a statue of limitations but you will have to prove you worked and paid taxes. It will probably be an uphill battle trying to get it. IF they did report your taxes and did take out money for your pension then you are due some money! Let us know what happens. |

Not at all. The main office in Jamsil got me my full-year's worth of pension within a month of filing a complaint. And in my situation, my uni hadn't paid a dime into the system. The pension office went after them like wolverines. They were pretty efficient and no-nonsense about the whole deal. |

Whether the pension office or labor office, the advice is the same:
The local offices are usually as helpful as *beep* on a bull, and sometimes tell you the opposite of what they should just to get you out of the office so they don't have to bother doing their actual jobs (some local offices are worse than others). Any time a local office screws around, go over their head to the main office. Main office will put them in their place and tell them to do their damn jobs.
Main office for pension is at Jamsil subway station (exit 8?)
Main office for Labor is in Gangnam.
Both main offices have excellent English-speaking staff and are no-nonsense when it comes to applying the laws of Korea. The pension guys even chewed out my boss over the phone for a good 5 minutes before fining him several million for being an idiot. |
