Cause I don't fkg want to eat rice! It's bland and useless. If I do have some, do you mind if I poor my food over it? Lot easier than scooping the food from another part of my tin tray. Wouldn't want to offend you?
Excuse me while I pick my bowl up and drown this tasteless soup. |

Korean friend: Do you want to eat Korean food?
Me: Sure, why the hell not you selfish, unwordly bastard. Let's eat what you like every time.
Korean friend: Ok, Korean food it is. |

The fixation with rice in this country often pisses me off.
Just last weekend I apparently offended the hostess at a friends dinner party by declining a bowl of rice which she brought to the table 20 minutes after the other foods were served! There was no way I could have forced in that rice. But, according to my wife, Korean custom is to force in any food offered, especially the rice, or the host will think their cooking is not 'mashita'!!
When told that I should think of rice as being like bread to westerners, I still don't get it. Which of you westerners would get offended if one of your guests declined some bread??
Funny how many Koreans are so convinced that we foreigners are incredibly alien and strange, yet get offended when we don't follow one of their little customs?? |

Bro, chill out and get your arse to the Hongdae tavern this weekend-I'd be going tonight but I'm at th etail end of a cold.
When I have teachers [not my coteacher, she's golden] demonstrate the most efficient chopsticks usage, or touch the hair on my arms, I make eye contact and say
"Don't do that. Don't ever do that again."
ps eamo, I just get to a point and say "I'm not eating any more." It works for me |

I must say I'm getting used to it.
This year I get fresh hot food, but at last years elementary I would get food that had been waiting in containers for 20 mins before our class ended. The principal and sometimes VP would get first pickings:roll: .
After a 'kalbi' meal among others, it is customary to eat either a bowl of rice with chiggae, or cold noodle.
What you can't eat, offer it to others before you start eating and then you could hide the rest in the chiggae. |

You've missed the point entirely......
Refusing to eat rice will offend Koreans. That's the problem. They see eating rice as such a requirement that even foreigners are roped in. |
