Someone just told me that if you have not previously held an E2 visa for nine months, you need to have an interview with the consulate in your home country. Is this true? So people who have been here less than 9 months and are changing schools need to go back to their home country before they can switch schools?

numbers were mine for clarification.

1) Yes.

2) Maybe. Each case will be evaluated on it's merits by the immigration officer in charge of the file (the clerk at the desk when you apply).

1) No, you do not have to go back to the home country if you have your degrees validated! I and a number of teachers from my school have received work visas (E1 & E2) in Fukuoka Japan.

PM me if you need info.

it's nowhere near an hour interview. it was probably the most useless interview i've ever had. basically, there were four questions for me:

1. have you been to korea before?
(asks the interviewer with my passport in hand and C4 visa clearly visible)

2. where did you teach?

3. do you speak korean?

4. do you have teaching experience?

all of this took no longer than one minute. it was a pain having to go to los angeles just for the interview and having people at the consulate treat it as though it was such a big deal. i had to reschedule twice because i had to wait until the interviewer would be there.

I received my first e-2 visa a month ago and didn't need an interview, maybe they figured the 2.5 hour flight etc was unnecessary. I dealt with the San Francisco Consulate and the guy there was very helpful over the phone.

Nice. I've gotta go up to LA soon for that too. It's good to know it's fast and easy.

Afterwards i'm gonna go to Venice Beach. Yayoooo.

It would be nice if LA did phone interviews, but apparently they need everyone to go in, in person.

I came from Bangkok. I was told that previous E-2 holders were exempt from the interview no time limit ie. nine months etc...
