I'm flying out on Friday to start teaching in Goyang city.

You have to break it down. "Goyang" is a broad area and could mean a lot of different suburbs.

"Goyang-si" is an area within "Gyeonggi-do" which is the province. Within Goyang, the primary area is Ilsan, which is the practical name people would commonly refer to the central area as. My defininition of "Goyang" would be anywhere on the Daewha subway line beyond Gupabal.

If you find out the exact name of the suburb (it would be XXXX-dong") then that would help in identifiying your local neighborhood.
