I'm running XP Pro. I just did a clean install.
I recently bought a 9800Gx2. This is my first nVidia card.
When I install 174.74 my mouse pointer becomes wonky. It no longer displays the hand when over links. And in explorer (and in other times) it frequently displays the arrow + hourglass. I have even removed the hourglass symbol from the pointer options in the control panel. But it still comes up.
Furthermore, Logitech setpoint doesn't work properly when I have 174.74 installed. It works - but it won't bring up the picture of the mouse and the "ok" , "cancel" and "apply" buttons at the bottom of the logitech settings window are transparent. They still seem to work. But something isn't right.
Furthermore, playing a video on my player causes the player to crash. However, it will play better in safe mode with no drivers (still some corruption etc... because no driver at all - but it will play).
Here is my system:
Intel E6700 2.66 ghz Core2Duo CPU
nVidia 9800Gx2 GPU
ASUS P5H DW Deluxe Motherboard
Zalman ZM1000-HP 1000 wat PSU
4 GB OCZ 1066 DDR2 Ram
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Extreme Music sound card
Samsung 2693HM 26" LCD Monitor
Creative Inspire 5.1 Spealers
Logitech G5 Laser Mouse
Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard
Windows XP Professional
All Drivers are latest versions now
Logitech Setpoint 4.40 for Mouse
Logitech lgps202 for keyboard
nVidia nforce 174.74 for GPUs
Latest Sound Blaster and Monitor drivers
Bios has been updated as well.
I have tried 174.70 and 174.53 to no avail. I have tried winamp, VLC, and mplayer. Otherwise, things sem to be fine. What is my next step? Try Vista? |

Games aren't working either. What a mess. I think the card is fine. But can't be sure. Not sure what the next step is... |

That sucks man.
Not sure its your mobo (P5W DH), since it does support 2 x PCI-E x 16. However, it only officially supports Crossfire (ATI) so that may be a sticking point.
There is a BETA BIOS dated MArch 24th...maybe flash the mobo?
There is a very good chance as well that its a driver issue. Nvidia have been fumbling lately in the software department.
Here is a 296 page thread devoted to 'fixes' for your mainboard...not very encouraging. Though they don't seem to be discussing the GPU at all.
I guess "ultimabob" is you? Good to post in as many forums as possible.
Good luck...no solid solutions from me, sorry. Gotta do a lot of research before buying immature tech, that's for sure. |

The gx2 has had horrible reviews why would you buy a 1st gen product. Nvidia drivers suck on top of that. Plus gx2 is a stop loss its going to get phased out quickly just like the 7850X2 |

Turns out many people are having issues with the P5W DH Deluxe and the 9800Gx2. Unfortunatley, all those issues are turning up just now - a few days after I bought the card lol. But that is a really popular board and it was supposed to run the 9800Gx2.
This has been an upgrade from hell - where I thought I was just going to upgrade a card, I upgraded PSU, MNobo, and card and sold perfectly good old components for almost nothing.
An expensive lesson. Now I know something about dealing with the newest stuff and how much research you have to do. Also, no matter how much research you do - wait! wait! wait! Because some stuff takes a few months to surface. Never doing this again. |

Actually, I have always been one to buy bleeding edge stuff as well, and did so largely without issue. Yes, driver stuff, but that is to be expected. Having said that, Nvidias' rush to production of the 9800X2 was clearly going to be problematic; things don't happen that quickly for a good reason.
Anyhow, its too bad you are having issues. I hope it all works out for the best. |

Buying a cheap P35 Mobo and will be done with this.
I see your point. Maybe what I should have said is don't buy bleeding edge stuff if you don't know what you are doing lol
I'm a computer noob in a country where I don't speak the language buying really high-end stuff. Bound to cause a few problems. |
