I've been planning to apply for a position with SMOE for some time now, and life keeps getting in the way. Currently, due to family health troubles, I'm going to be moving to Atlanta, GA from Portland, OR at the end of this month. It is a situation I expect to get straightened out within a few weeks, and hopefully, I will be able to go to Korea after that.
So here is my question. Should I go ahead and get background checks done in Oregon before I leave, or should I wait to move to Georgia? Is the visa office going to care if the address on my CBC is different than my current address? Do I need to wait until I have a Georgia driver's license (I wasn't even going to bother getting one) in order to avoid this potential problem?
Thanks for any assistance or insight. |

The visa office will not care -- I got mine with a passport address in California, a background check from Rhode Island, and the rest of my documentation from New York.
What you should do is call the Oregon office and see if the background check expires. Some of them are dated vaild for only 30, 60 or 90 days. If the Georgia rules require that you have an in-state driver's license, it seems like their other rules are going to be more of a pain there, also. But if you do get it in Oregon, make sure you get your apostille before you leave the state!
I hope your family health troubles are resolved for the best. |

Atlanta has a Korean consulate, so it will probably be more convenient for you to have your interview after the move.
I don't remember if they required me to have an in-state license (I did anyway of course), but I echo aalais' concern about expiration dates. I think it's 30 days, IIRC. |
