Ok, so I submitted my vacation request per the city school boards request. See "Calculating EPIK vacation and home leave?"

The city school board has come back and said, "We want you available for camps", and suggested that I take my vacation from Aug 10 to about the 30th. School starts on the 17th or 18th, so they are suggesting that I take vacation during school, something I am adamtantly against. They have made it plain that they consider the school board to be more important and of a higher authority than the school itself, and that their camps matter more than my regular classes. Higher authority I understand....in most things.

But the question is, who do I actually work for?
I was under the impression that I worked for the provincial EPIK program and assigned to a particular school.
Do I answer to the city school board, or to my school?

I am getting a little concerned as I have seen a pattern in the past year or so of the city encroaching more and more on what I see as school territiory. The school hasn't gone around and pissed on their trees so their territory is getting smaller and smaller.

got a class now, but that's the essence.

It's quite an issue as it's quite a vague area. I'm lucky in that our LEA is quite small and I've been able to make it clear to the school district that if they want me to keep renewing they should leave me alone to my own school. So far that's worked out very nicely.

I just heard back from the school board. I gave several reasons why I couldn't take vacation during the semester, one of the biggest being that it's hard enough to be regarded as a professional here without pissing off in the middle of the school year. The other being that my wife will be late in her pregnancy and she shouldn't really be travelling at that point. My co-teachers wanted to throw in that my mother was sick. Rolling Eyes I suggested "dying", and they thought that was even better. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

The education office hemmed and hawed a bit, and then said ok. I have asked for it in writing, and they are vacillating on whether they will provide it or not. I don't trust them even a little bit, and I'm betting they dont want to provide it because then they can't claim misunderstanding later.

I'm pretty sure they will come back with a proposal that I take less than my two weeks. I'm ok with that to a certain extent....IF they're willing to pay me my day rate for not taking them. For August, that would be 105,000 a day. Other than that, I'm not interested.
